I just think at some point the portal will be all about $$ or playing time...or both. Basically it is now but started as a "better fit" shop I guess.
Coaches will almost have to guarantee a starting position or certain amount of time for these kids. Especially guys with just 1 or 2 years left trying to "move up" in league status to get a "look" at possible professional career.
If that happens expect the blue bloods to get their pick and almost have an "all-star" type roster.
just my 2 cents
Some kids are different. Half will not want our coaches to say “will start day 1”
Not all D1 athletes or even juco or hs kids want you to say that.
Is there a group out there that wants to be coddled… absolutely
Cooper, Otega, Darthard, soares… those types of competitors don’t want that!

Thanks for the info. No stats? Funny but if Porter had brought him in, this Board would be going crazy that he was a stiff, another portal mistake, etc. Wishing him the best.
A strange advantage I hadn't considered before for OU may be that they have a few guys who are supposed to start (Oweh and Uzan) that have played together and can help the new guys with the system.
I was looking around the league, and there are several teams who will likely have all 5 new starters.
I'd be curious to look at last years results and see how "total transfer" teams did compared to teams with some carry-over from the previous year. Maybe I will have time to do that some time this summer.
Well … we returned more starters/rotational guys last year than most teams, too …
We returned 5 players by my count (groves bros, cj, bijan, hill).
How is that more than most teams?
If I have to explain to you that returning three starters and 5 rotation guys is more than most in today’s game, I don’t know what to tell you. Our starting lineup for the first month consisted of four guys who started or played key minutes the year before. In an age when people constantly complain about the portal and roster turnover, you don’t think that’s good continuity?
Just checked the big12 and ou was in the bottom 3rd of returning players. Spewing more baseless nonsense…
Only three teams returned more in terms of production. I guess you believe in the new math if that put us in the bottom third of the league. Of the six behind us, all but Tech made the tournament. The only baseless thing in this discussion is your continued refusal to acknowledge that we massively underachieved and regressed last season.

that is what he is good at. moving the goal posts is his specialty.
First statement: OU returned more starters & rotational players than most teams
Verdict: demonstratably false
Revised statement: we had 4 returning starters for a good portion of the season
Revision 2: Well if you are looking at returning players by production....
I think our fans were so overwhelmed by Tanners' NCAA game against KU that they felt he would be a big game changer.
Turns out he was a decent player who couldn't carry a team on his shoulders.
Kida like a pro in any sport who has a fantastic year, gets a big contract boost and never performs at that level again.
OU hasn't had a combo like Buddy, Cousins and Spangler since that can consistently give you as chance to win any game on any night. Even Trae by himself couldn't get OU over the hump.
We need at lest a 3 pack of really good players to move up the ladder in any conference OU plays in. Don't see that in the current group.
