MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Cam attended UConn’s mens first summer practice on Monday with Dan Hurley and committed. I did not realize that teams could have official practices this early? Did he visit OU this last weekend or was that someone else?

He visited last week.

Think we have our guy. Guard from the east coast.

Little higher on cole than I used to be. Athleticism coming back to life post knee injury:

I’m sure it’ll be a guard we have never heard of, but people will immediately talk up his athleticism.

I’ll be interested to see whether those who assured the board that we would sign a good, starting-quality four will admit defeat, or continue insisting that we are “fine” at that spot. The irony is that every time we missed on a four, the eternal optimists would reply with a “lol there are hundreds of good options in the portal.” Well, guess what, that just makes it even more pathetic that we signed exactly zero of them.

We better hope Cooper plays like a stud from day one, and that Los is even better than expected.

I haven't been in any of these discussions to "admit defeat", but I sure as heck wanted OU to sign a Big XII-quality 4...we didn't. That said, do we honestly know what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to NIL money? It would make all the sense in the world for a 4 who was looking to start to come to OU, but was the money offer competitive with who we were competing against to get one of these guys? I have no idea...don't know if the OU coaches are going to bat with three strikes when recruiting these players.

One thing is certain. We're no longer dealing with a level playing field, and probably never will again. Whichever schools want to win the most will offer the most money. It will be an advantage in football...heck maybe even softball...but nothing else.

We just need our own Luther Campbell

Demarco Dunn from unc.

Name to keep an eye on.

I’m sure his shot looks great in practice. His stats are actually worse than CJ Noland’s.

If this is the final piece, it looks like we’ve brought in a couple guys (Hugley and McCollum) to be truly excited about as potential difference makers, and the rest are guys who should be reserves and depth pieces on a legitimate Big 12 roster. So, essentially, we are in the same spot we were in on the day the season ended.

Better athleticism, defense, and rebounding. Questionable offensive abilities ... have no idea what we'll get on that end of the floor.

Interesting, thought he was heading to the Hoyas. Things move so fast so who knows.

He's athletic and has good size. Seems to be a solid defender. 3 pt stats aren't great, but his shot preparation is top notch. Good base, good balance, consistent elevation and follow-through. Assume he'll be able to improve his numbers with court time.

As a bench player, he seems like a solid addition and would really be filling the CJ Noland role -- looks good on the practice court, but still don't know if he can contribute consistently at this level.

seems like he might have a issue getting transferring into gtown

(funny he would be the second unc player to have this issue )

Ehh, we aren't likely to add a guard at this point that will make a difference. We have a bunch of depth. Any new body is likely on the same playing level as at least a couple of them, meaning you are swapping a C level player for a C level player if one beats out the other.

I know you know this, but we don't need 13 bodies that project to play this season. I'm really focused on those top 8-9, and maybe the 10th. We will largely win games based on how good those top 7 or so are.

Oh I agree, I guess my point is, the roster as a whole looks too similar to last season for me to think we will be much better. We have lots of depth players but not enough difference makers in the top 8 or 9. I am excited about McCollum but it will be tough for him to be much better than Grant was over the course of the full season. I think a healthy Hugley will/should be an upgrade from Tanner. But we have gotten worse at the four. So I think we need Cooper to really hit the ground running, and/or for Los and Oweh to really make a leap.

This Porters' 3rd year coming up and if he doesn't make some progress than
this experiment has run its course.
At least a winning record margin of 3 or 4 games, no less.

They portal players we already have, are they bound to us?

I think they are like incoming freshman -- once they sign, they are bound, but verbal commitments don't bind them. My gauge is always whether the school puts out a statement online or on twitter. Once that happens, it is official.
