MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

On what basis? And if we really have a realistic chance, please don’t then downplay it when he signs elsewhere and act like it was never possible.

Brock Morris recruited him to Louisiana. The minutes with Hugely already committing are a concern.

Yeah, I get that, but think it is overblown. People are so quick to think/hope connections like that are a huge thing, whether it is an assistant coach, a former high school teammate, or a brother who plays receiver and is also in the portal. Something tells me this kid is going to have tons of offers from elite schools, and we won't even get a visit.

On another note, I saw Moser issued a statement officially announcing Moore's signing. It said that he will help "our up tempo offense." I didn't actually laugh out loud, but probably smirked silently.

It may be fun for us all to predict, now that we basically know what our roster will look like, what we think our scoring numbers and pace of play ranking will be next season. I am quite confident we will still play very slow and that Moser will still micromanage the offense from the bench.

I'm not counting on anything, not by a long shot, but the situation is, at the very least, an interesting coincidence. Morris was able to recruit him from the portal once before, so that's one point in our favor. It's better than none.

Why the rush to shoot it down? What's gained? No one's getting overly excited or making bold predictions. It's just been pointed out out that our new coach has a legit connection to the player. It does pique one's interest, but I imagine most, like me, will just wait it out to see what happens. I might commend that approach to you as well.

My frustration is what I posted earlier. People will point these things out and say that we are a legit possibility, but when the player goes elsewhere, they will say there is no reason to be disappointed because we never had a real chance. I just want consistency. If we are truly a real player, then by all means, post it. But if it is pure conjecture, it seems silly to get people's hopes up. Not saying people don't have the right to post it, but just wish they would show more restraint sometimes. I bet there are coaches at about 50 schools who have ties to just about every guy in the portal.

But Coach was not overstating in any way. He said our chances were "better than slim" -- hardly a hyperbolic statement -- and then added that Morris had previously recruited Morris successfully, while also acknowledging that Hugley's presence--and the minutes he'll likely command--could be an obstacle. I'd call that an evenhanded update; it includes the positives and the negatives. Anyone who got their hopes up too high based on that info has no one but themselves to blame.

He wasn’t the one who added the qualifiers. The only thing he said was that we have a greater than slim chance. I’m not saying he made it sound like we are a front runner for the kid. But unless there is some indication that the player is seriously considering us and/or scheduling a visit, I’d personally consider Stoops comment that our chances are slim to be perfectly accurate. The most recent post showing how many schools have connections to him kind of proves my point.

You looking at it from a glass half empty approach....SHOCKER!!

It's safe to say that we all know your stance on pretty much everything.

Right you are--my mistake. I stand by everything else I said. Nothing in the above posts, including Coach's comment, was likely to create any great expectations among the posters here. It just feels as if not a single one of your pessimistic thoughts goes unposted.

I'll admit I feel a bit like the pot calling the kettle back here, given that some have viewed me as being too negative in recent months, but I am a rank amateur compared to you.

Basis came from the same person that told me 24 hours or so before our new staffer was hired before 24/7, sooner scoop, and other money making operations.

I consider slim close to zero: greater than slim is more than 0 but less than 50…

He’s a big fish.

Completely agree. Wichita posted 4 times to make sure no one gets their hopes up about this portal player...and he got in another dig at Moser to top it off.

Since there are no games to critique, the offseason is mostly about hope and what-ifs. It seems like it shouldn't be too hard to stay quiet at times and let some of us entertain the possibilities instead of constantly shooting them down.

Bob P said OU is going to push on this one and try to get involved. We'll see. May amount to nothing but worth a try

People keep asking where the offense is going to come from and how a guy like Moore fits, I think Moser is going to stick a bunch of athletes on the floor, try to be very good or elite on defense, and hope that defense leads to easy looks in transition.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'm pretty certain that is the "strategy" at this point.

lol, coach will also post something snarky if the kid does end up at OU, suggesting he "knew", and if the kid goes elsewhere he'll make some excuse.

That is where Wichita's "frustrations", and mine at times, come from.

Kid has 1 season left (it appears). We have Hugley. We have 3 other 5's on our roster. Just doesn't seem like a good fit. Also not a huge fan of recruiting another kid that moves around pretty much every year. Let some other school be his 4th school in 5 years.

Gosh, I'm sorry you're frustrated.

Coach shares more valuable info than 95% of the posters on this board (include me in that 95% percent); that he's occasionally wrong is a given--anyone sharing early intel on hiring, recruiting and transfers is going to be wrong some of the time.

Are you hoping for 100% accurate info from a message board?

I get being frustrated by recruiting but to be frustrated by posters trying to share info the received or heard is a little much, don't you think?

Personally, I just enjoy hearing rumors and inside Intel I didn't get on my own. If it works out awesome. If not it is cool to know we are putting in the work.

I just figure people would appreciate hearing some of the info.. sometimes it's good to just see things from a different view but there are always guys who are pessimistic or just want everything in 100% facts but recruiting can change on a dime and you can't live in a black and white world....there are far too many gray areas and ifs/buts.
