MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

You guys must place a lot of emphasis on stars/recruiting rankings.

I place a lot of emphasis on the fact that we were outsized and out-athleted inside for the last couple of years......that is something that I would like fixed. This would be a step in the right direction.

I'm not in love with star rankings but they are a decent gauge of athleticism/ability/potential....whether we (or someone else) brings that out of a kid is a different story. So, if I am picking up an unproven guy...I would much rather that unproven guy have some traits I am looking for.

I am done arguing or whining over us getting this kid vs that kid or this coach vs that coach when we all have literally zero idea what is going on behind closed doors. We OBVIOUSLY aren't buying our way to a Final Four team so give me all the potential I can get.

But that's just it -- Hugley is not unproven. He has shown what he can do in a good college league (the ACC wasn't awful in 2022, when he had a good season). I feel like he would help us much more this coming season than Traore. I'd take them both, but if we only get one, I would much rather have the guy who will make an immediate impact.

I fully agree with you on the need for better athletes. But they need to be good athletes who can actually play. We've had a few athletic bigs over the past few years; unfortunately, they weren't skilled enough to help much.

I want all 3... Give me some bigs and let their play sort it out.

We have the guards to be good.

After we add from the Portal, we MIGHT have the guards to be good.

We thought we had the guards to be good last year too, and Noland didn't take a step forward, Basimile didn't live up to the hype, and Sherfield, while good, certainly had some struggles.

I don't really want to make any declarations before seeing a final roster, but we still have some work to do. What 4's are we in on?

Hugley had one solid year out of three. I would take him for sure....but Traore has more time to develop as well. We don't need Traore to come in and average 15 and 10 (although that would be awesome).

We definitely would need to add to what we get with either Traore or Hugley....and I would take both.

IF we add MCCollum and Small I think them, with our current guards will be a step up from last year......finding that 4 man would still be pretty important.

Yeah, it is very hard to know what to expect from players who would be taking a big step up in competition. The guards SEEM promising, but I was absolutely fired up about Bam last spring.

I've not seen a ton of 4s listed in the players we are seriously in on. It seems like every tweet I have seen from the writers has focused on the guards and the two bigs. I hope there are guys under consideration that we haven't heard about. Otherwise, maybe the plan is to play very small at the four and hope we can make it work.

If that were the case, I would take Hill back, but I don't know what I'm talking about. He would be some glue on a team of strangers.

I think everyone expected Bam to get at least 10 ppg.. rough

That is a positive to me imo. Gives me faith that PM possibly had a frank discussion with JG. But that could be wrong, maybe JG wanted to leave on his own accord.

I’m sure Jacob saw the reality. Unless he showed massive improvement his role would be like the final 10 games of the year best case. 10-15 min a game unless he was cooking.
