MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Darthard led a pretty good UVU team (top 70 KenPom) in FT attempts (making nearly 90%) and 3 point attempts. Sounds like just the guy we’ve been asking for. I think he could be a great fit for what we want to do on offense.

hope we close the deal with him

Why? You could very reasonably argue that Jalen is in a better league than Jacob, albeit on a worse team.

There's no logic here. If he wants a great conference, he took a huge L leaving the Big XII. If he wants a good team or coach, UVA is light-years ahead of UNLV.

another Oregon portal .. do they have a team left

Jacob committed to Virginia. Guess Tony Bennett didn’t let the lack of a long highlight video discourage him lol.

I imagine he’ll have a very specific role for them.

Wow, great landing spot for Jacob!

Definitely surprising he is going to UVA, but hilariously he had the 2nd best/longest highlight reel of OU’s portal entries (behind Hill). That actually would support the “better highlights=better opportunities” correlation I mentioned. Thanks for bringing more supporting evidence!

Another forward to watch here. See if Coach Gates and Soares can work some magic.

Unranked in HS. Class of 2021. Redshirt 21-22 and only played in 2 games this season a total of 7 minutes. 🤔 This would be the only player so far I'd be scratching my head about if we're pursuing. Unless there's some upside missing.

If you are banking on Godwin, then that is unfortunate. I would love for him to take his minutes. Means he is necessary.

He was redshirted. Tough to beat a guy out when you aren't allowed play.

I’m not. But what makes you think he’s going to surpass a guy who beat him out the year prior? That typically doesn’t happen.

Why is there a comparison of Jalen Hill to Jacob Groves? Groves can’t play. Good that he was able to land at a spot, but we saw it up close and personal. He was benched due to lack of ability.

That is fair.

I think there is a world where Northweather is better for the team, but reshirting him and allowing him to grow another year is better for the team long-term.

You don't just do step back 3's as a 6'11" guy and not have some talent. So I would take 2 or 3 a game from him, if it opens up the middle for us to do work athletically.

But you had Tanner and a seasoned Godwin. If Luke wasn't quite there, it makes sense to give him time to develop. At the same time, I could be VERY wrong...bc this is all speculation.

I get the argument people have about Groves not being starter material. I would agree with that but the hate for him is fairly unwarranted. You say he can't play and say you can't compare him to Hill etc....but if you compare stats which really don't lie....Groves averaged about 3 points and 3 rebounds less than Hill in 13 minutes per game less. Groves also shot 9% better from 3.

I'm not saying he was better than Hill but to say he can't play is unwarranted.i would say he would be a quality guy off the bench....maybe a solid starter at a mid-major.

You guys are nuts.

I’ll take Tony Bennett opinion over anyone on this board…

He may play 4 mins a game. But that’s ok. 13 guys can’t play!!!

I agree. Did you not see that my post was in response to a comment? I didn’t pull it out of thin air. Although I suspect Bennett will use Groves in a way to maximize whatever skill he does have.

Groves could be a good role player coming off the bench. He occasionally did that for us. Unfortunately, we needed him to be more than he was. He will have some good games for Virginia and then he’ll disappear for long stretches and they’ll still be a good tony Bennett team.
