FWIW, one of the new crew at the OU 247 board (now called Sooners Illustrated) said that OU is still in the running but that Cal and KU are the leaders.

I could deal with losing out to KU. Losing out to one of the worst teams in the country over the last few years would be … less than ideal. Especially if they want to be a package deal. Who knows if the latter rumor is true.

yea but with a new head coach (with plenty of NBA experience) and success building the last program he was at, in a good location and plenty of $$ backing it up is not like losing out to Lamar or Delaware State.

I doubt Madsen's NBA career resonates with a 20-year-old player. I bet most guys don't remember a thing about his playing days. And if the buzz of a new coach who had some success at his previous stop is enough, it sure would have been nice if we could have pulled some borderline top 10 portal guys two years ago.

I agree that Cal isn't Lamar, but it's about as bad as it gets for P5 programs. And I think it is pure speculation that they have lots of NIL money. Cal is certainly a very rich school, but it's not like their basketball program gets much attention. I have heard a lot of analysts say that Fox was in a no-win situation there because no one really cares about the program.

They don't have to remember his career much....he has two championship rings, which would definitely peak a kids interest I would think. You don't have to be a super star in the league to catch a kids attention to say you PLAYED in the league. That alone gives you some cred with players....to know that they are playing for a guy who at least knows what it takes to get there and what it takes to be in the league...then flash the rings.

I'm not saying that is the sole reason they would pick Cal but it could definitely play a factor. and YES it is speculation about NIL but it is ALSO speculation that they DON'T have better NIL than we do. I can't say what the are giving or not giving...neither can you. I think it is at least PLAUSIBLE that they have a solid NIL program said up and funded by wealthy alumni.

Either way...I'm just saying it isn't nearly as embarrassing to lose out to Cal as some other schools.
 
Mad Dog had a good college career, but if he's known for anything in the NBA, it's bad dancing. He was a star at the championship parades, but his 3 PPG didn't move thr needle much on the court.
 
Agree. No smoke- no fire. I think we are down to other choices.
 
After all the talk of Tyson, Johnson, and the “surprise” visitor last weekend, my guess is that we end up with none of the above.

Man you sure are defensive. Do you feel it’s your job to defend the program at every turn? Every time we miss on a guy that you have hyped up as a guy we are really pushing for, you act like it’s nothing to worry about because “you can’t get them all” and “there are hundreds of guys available.” I don’t expect to get them all. I sure would like to get enough of them to not have the worst roster in the league for two straight seasons.

Not defensive. Realistic. We miss on guys. May not get Tyson may not get sherrell, doesn’t make it less true.

Have you said 3 good things about any of our current guys? Id guess no.
Not big fan of last place either.

Bet we aren’t last place this year… let’s wager? Loser off the board for 1 year? 90 days?
