Mizzou

I'm with Sawyer on this. Kansas lost to an unranked team, Baylor struggled against an unranked BYU, and Missouri beat a ranked team. Now Illinois did come roaring back, but Mizzou was able to get a win against a ranked opponent.

If OU had beat Illinois in the same fashion at the LNC no one here would be saying that Illinois is a horrible team.

We shall see. Lots of teams lose to BYU at their place.

Missouri looks great. BYU is one of the toughest places to win on the road in the country. Not a hostile environment but like the Pit in New Mexico, they have some elevation to deal with and they play a fast pace to take advantage of opponents not used to it. Matt Carlino- the UCLA transfer is really good. He will draw comparisons to Jimmer.

The Denver Nuggets in the 80s were the masters at using the elevation to their advantage- Fat Lever, Alex English, Kiki Vandeweghe. They couldn't play defense but they didn't lose very often on their home court.

Illinois hasn't exactly been a pushover the past 3+ seasons either. They've averaged 22 wins (10-8 in the Big 10) over that span... including a win over Kruger in his last game with UNLV.

If you think posting with them is tough try living around these humps on a daily basis. Their chests are all puffy because for the first time in forever they feel they have an advantage on big brother. They should be winning as they have talent but it is a long year. Let's see where things sit come March.

I have no problem with Sawyer, he is a MU fan and it shows in his posts. Do you really expect some completely sanitary opinions from the guy? If his views were straight laced or if they somehow were supportive of OU; then the value of him posting here would be lost.

Man, that sounds eerily familiar...

Meh, Mizzou will do their annual face plant. Congrats on a top 25 win, but before that game Mizzou had played no one.

200 words too long for you?

It's hardly being a homer to suggest kansas' loss to Davidson is more revealing than MU's win over a top 25 Illinois team.

Agreed... I'd take Mizzou over Kansas at this juncture.

While I probably would as well, but what does KU's win over Georgetown and Ohio St tell us? Both teams better than Illinois? KU has played a MUCH more difficult schedule than Mizzou.

KenPom is usually a pretty good indicator where a team stands.

Well, the Ohio St win tells me it is very misleading, considering the Buckeyes played without Sullinger.

But I see your point with Georgetown and Pom's rankings. I wasn't necessarily saying that KU's loss to Davidson compared to Mizzou's victory vs. Illinois is the sole indicator why I'd take Mizzou; rather, I'd also take Mizzou for other reasons. One of them being I like their roster better because I think they can pose more match-ups problems vs. KU than vice-versa.

Regardless, it is a close call at this point. Will be interesting to see how their match-ups play out.

Missouri might be susceptible to a team that can D them up. They take bad shots. But they are good. And yes I think Scott Drew does cheat in recruiting.

Missouri ... who cares? The epitome of irrelevance. Odds are very high Kansas sends them on their way with eternal scoreboard just like Texas did their little step brother A&M.

That's a fair point, and one I wouldn't argue. I won't agree, either, but it is a legitimate position.

I'm with you, Boca!

:clap

Marriott Center is one of the toughest places to play in America, even without Jimmer. Baylor should be praised for pulling that one out instead of it held against them.

I haven't seen enough of Missouri to know if they are as undisciplined on offense as they were most of the second half against Illinois.

If so Kansas will wax them and the Baylor games will be streetball.

I don't think Illinois is good enough on offense to be a top 25 team. They will lose most of their games against Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Indiana and will have all they can handle against Minnesota, Northwestern and Purdue.

Weber is a solid coach though.

Isn't Haith pending some heavy discipline from the NCAA over the Miami scandle. What Sampson did is childs play compared to that mess.

I'm not so sure the Big 12 has a power team like KU has been or Texas has been some years, or even OU in the early 00s. Baylor might be the closest thing and Missouri isn't really that far behind Baylor either. However to say Missouri isn't in that argument is ridiculous.

However I think there isn't a team in the Big 12 which is overwhelming right now. Both Baylor and Missouri could easily lose on the road to teams like Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas or even Texas A&M. I'm not sure the lower tier of the conference and beat those teams right now, but you never know.

When he was hired the MU fans screamed like stuck pigs about the hire but of course now they love him. I get the impression that the strip club/cash payoffs/etc part of that is over. Not sure.

MU is better on offense than they were last year. Last year at times looked as if they just shot until it went in. I'm interested to see how they do on the front line. They have one big that looks good(name escapes me) but I haven't seen much else. And, I'll be interested to see what sort of coaching job Haith does once conference play begins. I feel we have an advantage as far as that goes as Kruger is an excellent bench coach.

There was only one claim of a violation relating to basketball at Miami. Granted, it was a pretty big one, but as far as I can tell there is zero evidence that it actually occurred. At this point I don't expect anything to come of it.
