New Arena

Season ticket holder as well and would agree the LNC isn’t that awful, would point to the other reasons discussed as issues for lower attendance (although I am in Tulsa, makes the workday games challenging to attend). It’s not an ideal basketball venue but it’s more than serviceable from a fan experience perspective.

Don’t really buy a new arena drawing increased fans outside of the short-term bump. If Norman wants to subsidize, go for it although I imagine you will see some attrition with season-ticket holders if prices are significantly higher. It is what it is, CBB has become a much more “for-television” experience.

If you want a real fantasy as opposed to a renovated field house or other on-campus facility, would love to see OU try and get more games (including conference like Tech in 2019/2020) in the larger metro areas (Ford Center, BOK). Save the money and improve player-only facilities.

That's the problem with ou basketball. Everyone is ok with "more than serviceable"

when Lon Kruger did his last radio interview after announcing his retirement he me mentioned something needs to be done about the arena that it's a real issue for OU basketball going forward..if Lon was is saying it we should be listening...

The LNC isn’t even a serviceable arena. It’s a total dump and needs to be imploded immediately

Exactly. Lon Kruger is not noted for being controversial or making extreme remarks. If he said the LNC as is, is not good for OU hoops going forward, that's all I need to hear.

interesting...i don't recall that

LK never said it an interview but the practice facility is way to small. Only one full court and when in use there isn’t even enough room for guys to shoot on the side. Remember the other half is for women’s basketball.

The practice facility is relatively new. Why is it too small? Is our facilities planning so inept? OU always seems to be in need of upgrades. There's a steady, never-ending drumbeat of posts criticizing our facilities on the football boards. Nothing is ever good enough (not for long, anyway).

The Griffin Family Performance Center is relatively new, but I'm pretty sure the practice courts in the LNC are the same old ones. There is definitely not enough space

Thanks; I thought the practice courts were in that newer facility.

Can an old guy rant here? Heaven forbid the men and women use each other's courts when the team isn't using them. I understand that there will be some times when both are practicing at the same time but I would bet that is a rare occasion. And if it's only shooting, to have men and women shoot in the same gym..........what a travesty!

And I am with Skyvue in another reply, it seems never ending that we constantly need upgrading of facilities and amenities to entice players that now have no commitment to stay at the university more than one season and it's no longer about the school or the team, it's about their individual brand.

And oh yeah, we as boosters need to support the university by donating to these endless upgrades but now we also need to give to "collectives" to entice those athletes to come try us for a year and see if they like us enough to stay.

It seems like sad times for college athletics my friends.

Rant over.

He didn't say they couldn't use each other practice courts if they weren't being used.

His point was there is only one full court and nowhere for guys to shoot, so that implies they can't use the other court, right?

when they run full court they almost always use the LNC main court ..

the practice facilities are not an issue
