I think Cam could be in the mix too. He played really well down the stretch. I don't think he can play the 3 but he could take M'Bayes spot and slide M'Baye to the 5. Small lineup but very athletic.

Cam is not a smart basketball player. If the light goes on for him, though, we could be very good. He and M'Baye are an incredibly athletic tandem.

Spangler is going to start. Going to provide too much rebounding not to.

bgrch,
I don't think that's necessarily the case.
M'baye, Hield, Hornbeak are all going to be much improved in year two. We saw that with Osby this year.
Hield in particular is a threat to be the leading scorer for OU. His post foot surgery ball was a shadow of his efforts before that.
Woodward is a better scoring option than Grooms.
Spangler could easily be a double/double guy for OU next year.

Cousins
Hield
?
Mbaye
Spangler

Aren't we going to need Cam to play mins at the 4?

Clark, Hornbeak, and Bennett will play a lot of mins

While I agree that the freshman will improve, comparing them to Osby isn't really fair. That guy was a 5th year senior.

I agree with the OP as far as the starters. I guess Cousins or Bennett could start over Woodard and Spangler, but I don't see it. Especially with Spangler.

Cam is better off the bench, so we can limit his minutes. Hopefully he'll do next year exactly what he did this year, production-wise, and minutes-wise. He doesn't need to play much more than 15-18 minutes.

We were a 10 seed with osby. Going to be a long season next year with this lineup

If we can win 15 games with nick Thompson and Carl Blair in the starting lineup, then we can win 4-5 more with this talent. Jmo.

M'Baye and OU's freshmen guards will do nothing but improve. This coaching staff is too good to let kids stay status quo in their progressions. Also, Kruger's already let it be known that we will get better rebounding next year with Spangler in the line-up. Overall, this team will be better next year than this year. Losing the inconsistency of Fitz and Pledger alone will be an improvement.

I keep seeing talk about rebounding being improved. It may improve, but it wasn't really an issue this year like I thought it would be. Last time I looked, we were 2nd in the Big 12 in rebounding margin.

We had major issues with defensive rebounding against quality teams. Way too many possessions extended. If we really want to get better on that end, containing dribble penetration and not allowing offensive boards are key. Regardless of our ranking, my eyes tell me it was an issue at times and needs to get better.

You do realize that last year, under Kruger, we went 15-16. Its not like were automatically going to win 20 games under him.

That is right. Osby rebounded very well. I don't know that Spangler will be all that much better. And if he is it would likely be only incrementally.

Myself and others might be combating the doomsday scenario some are predicting with the loss of Osby. I think our rebounding and defense will not suffer with Osby's departure. I think it will be at least as good and mayby alittle better.

The question is will Osby's scoring and leadership be missed to the point of setting the team back. Well, I don't think that next season's team will need as much leadership. And for some reason I'm pretty confident some one or one's will step in to fill the scoring gap.

I do agree with the rebounding and defense. Defense should be better. Rebounding will be around the same(maybe a lil better or a lil worse but overall good rebounding).

But the offense will take a huge hit.

Oh yeah, I definitely realize that, and that starting lineup was still not as good as next years will be. Grooms was the PG and he was a solid PG but wasn't near as skilled offensively as he displayed this season. Pledger started at the 2 when he's really a 3, Cam started at the 3 when he's really a 4, Fitz was at the 4 and he's not athletic enough to be a starting 4 at a BCS level program, and Osby at the 5. The primary subs were Blair who was terrible, probably the worst PG in the history of the big 12 or one of them, the small forward from juco who was a 4/5, and Arent who isn't very good either. Next years starting lineup and main subs will be much improved from that squad and I still maintain we can win at least 4-5 more games than we did 2 years ago.

The big difference is the backcourt with Hield, Hornbeak, Cousins, and Woodard will be much better than the last 3 teams and I think M'Baye, Clark, Spangler, Bennett, and the juco guy will maybe be a slight drop off from what we had this year since we lost Osby. So, IMO, it's a slight improvement overall next year.

I see what your saying but I disagree with it.

Our PG play is going to take a major drop off. Cousins showed that he's not that good of a PG under pressure. Woodard is just not going to come in and be a stud. He's going to play like a freshman PG. Hield is going to be the main focus and not having Pledger there to take the main defensive player is going to cause problems for him. Osby's 17ppg is going to be greatly missed.

The only way I see that we succeed next year is if Cameron Clark becomes the man. He has to be a scoring threat.
