Nice job from Buford at crunch time

I think Lattin not coming back in was more due to what Texas was doing and the fact that Buford was playing well. Lammert is an outside player and after switches we ended up with Spangler on Taylor several times. I liked the idea of letting Spangler stay on Ibeh and then let the chips fall on switches.

However, Spangler also did a nice job defensively when forced to guard Taylor.

I don't agree. He wasn't having a good night and his attitude wasn't right. Earlier a teammate (Hield? Not sure) approached him to either instruct him on something or to encourage him, and Lattin jerked away from him with some emphasis. Besides, sitting someone with four fouls is not really sending him a message. Everyone sits for a while with four fouls.

I didn't get to see much of the first half so I must have missed the jerk away.

I understand sitting with 4 fouls...but he never came back into the game

Why no AK tonight? I wasn't impressed with Mcnese at all. Buford was big time.. I think he is starting to get it and gain more confidence..

because he doesn't move latterly very well .. and texas last night had 0 post up players ...

if ridley was healthy and played I would bet that AK would have played ..

I hope this is the case. I can understand that but Lattin has made big plays down the stretch in close games. So maybe it was a case of him sitting with 4 fouls and then seeing how well buford was playing and lon just decided to stick with buford....but i kind of doubt it.

Lattin 5.9 boards a game
buddy 5.6 boards a game

I think Lattin is one of the most overrated sooner in years.

He leaves his feet and tried to blocks shot every time the ball is in the paint .

He never plays good on ball defense is always out of position for a rebound because he's in air swatting at balls he will never get .i don't know how many times a game had he not left his feet and played good defense , a simple block out, and it's a easy board . Instead it's a easy put back because he tried to block an impossible shot .

He's a great shot blocker , but a 6'10 should have 10 boards a game .

Not to mention the silly silly fouls that he gets of a least two to three a game .

There are 23 guys in NCAA D1 basketball that avg 10 rebs.

Get real please. Comments like that show irrational, nonsense about your basketball knowledge.

I like McNease going forward. Not so much this year but next year and beyond. He reminds me a lot of Lattin last year early in the season. I think he is longer and more explosive on defense. I don't think he will be a big time offensive guy but could be another energy guy like Lattin.

By the way, that GOAL TENDING call was bad.

mcnease should watch tape over and over and over of Prince Ibeh

that is the guy he should become ..

Buford in with Spangler means OU has 5 guys on the floor that can hit from deep which is a tough matchup for pretty much every team. Furthermore, it allows him to the be the screener at the top of the key in the pick and pop allowing Spangler the opportunity to get offensive rebounds. Buford playing well is going to be a key going forward for this team offensively if the team has a game where the opponent is laying off Lattin completely on the offensive end and the offense is getting bogged down.

I think the poster took it way overboard as I think Lattin has improved a ton this year and is key for this team. However, last night there were a number of times where he went for some hero block and either left his man wide open for a quick dump off from Taylor or Felix or left him wide open to get an offensive put back. It does seem he has become a bit too enamored with a big swat rather than playing sound D and positioning for a rebound.

Frankly, the big swats are cool and all but rarely lead to a change of possession as they usually get sent to the first row.

May not lead to a change of possession, but having an imposing shot blocker changes the way people play. Look at Ibeh for Texas last night. As soon as he left the game, OU drove the ball to the hole. When he was in, they were hesitant. The threat of a shot blocker is often far more valuable than the actual block. It can be intimidating to these guys. No one wants to get "embarrassed" by having their shot blocked. It changes the way people play.

Agreed, he just needs to become better at his decision-making as to whether to go for the block or stick with his man and position for a rebound. Like has been stated, he's only a sophomore and I'm sure the coaches will be in his ear after last night.

Not necessarily a bad thing for this team to struggle a bit in February. Gives the coaches license to pound home these mistakes and try to reduce them come March.

No way he adds 80lbs

he is only 50 pounds lighter right now ..

Ibeh is 6'11 265 he was 6'10 225 when he signed he has gained 40 pounds in 4 years ..

McNease is 6'10 215 he has gained 15 pounds in his 1 year at OU .. he could for sure gain another 30 in the next 2 1/2 years .. (which would be the start of his senior season)

Jamuni could be a 6'10 + 245 beast ..

What you forgot to add is that 250 players average more the 5.9 boards a game . Not to mention Oklahoma is one of the highest scoring teams in teh country which leads to more possessions for our opponents ( which is why our defensive stats are skewed )
10 boards a game is completely doable for a 6'10 guy with hops . If you can be in the top 25 for blocks why is it out a question to be in the top 25 for boards?

I would rather see 1 to 2 blocks a game and 4 to 5 more boards.

Oh my. Buddy plays many more minutes than Lattin, for one thing.

Second, one of the most overrated players? Get serious. Find another sophomore in the toughest conference in the country who's a better defensive player. Hint: you won't.

Best defender ??? Are you serious ? Big difference between a shot blocker and defender.
A defender can shut the paint down , on the block , on the dribble , on the boards.
Lattin is an elite shot blocker but takes himself out of plays because of it not to mention out of the game with careless fouls because he's always going for teh block and NOT defending .
