No offense to Toby Rowland

i'm glad you started a new thread on this subject. You ahven't started a Pearl thread in awhile, maybe you should do that.

Just messing with you

I just think the pbp voice is important and while I like Toby alright he just doesn't have a distinct voice.

Nor does he have any relevant pbp experience...

I don't dispute that experience might be important. But to me that is a job someone can grow in to (and they often do) ... provided they have the voice to begin with.

I think he's got a great voice, but that's just me.

PBP is more than just the voice anyway. It's also about the delivery and being able to describe exactly what is taking place so the listener can picture what is actually happening. This is what was wrong with BBS in his last 15 years, or so. He couldn't see good enough to paint the picture so he relied on his spotters too much.

Should have hired Bruce Howard from TU. He has a great voice and is awesome on the PBP.

This hire reeks to me, not that it matters what my opinion is.

I won't be greatly impacted by this hire, as I watch OU sports, via cable tv and the internet, far more often than I listen to the radio broadcasts.

That said, Rowland does seem an underwhelming choice.

OU obviously doesn't care about people who listen to the radio. Toby doesn't have any experience calling games. What a joke of a hire. Bob Barry Sr grandson has more experience calling games than Toby.

hey everybody starts somewhere right? Anybody that has listened to rowland knows he will do a good job. the importance of PBP experience is being vastly overestimated imo. you wanted bbsr gone. He is. Be happy and actually wait until he calls a game to tear him to shreds

Well the guy has local ties, already works for and is good standing with the university, and likely will be a lifer if he works out. Yes it isn't some "national" hire, but I guess I missed the thread where we are in an arms race with KU/UT/East Handkerchief St. for the penultimate PBP guy.

I have no issue if this was a cheap hire, this is a business where budgets do matter. Owen Field isn't built over a vault of endless mountains of gold doubloons. Ledger sheets are to be adhered to, not to be ignored ala the US Govt.

Nice hire.

I don't miss a home game so I could care less. Maybe this will entice some of you to help fill the seats if you are so upset about it.

Personally, it pisses me off, because I'm every bit as qualified, and I neglected to apply.
