No offense to Toby Rowland

Nobody has a person with a distinct voice anymore. Everyone is generic and the same. And Toby has called OU bball games for years. He has done a few mens games and a whole lot of womens games.

He also has the best radio show in the metro area. And believe me you really want to listen to it now, as he will have his pulse on everything OU.

Some people love to ***** about everything.

In the early to mid 70s we hired Mike Treps as the PBP guy. I think this hire much the same way. Throughout the 70s we had like 4 or 5 different announcers. Brooks didn't take over till about 1980

Treps was the SID at the time. And, he was horrible.

Did you ever listen to Treps? I did plenty of times. He was good as a color guy, but atrocious as PBP. I hated listening to baseball games because he never mentioned what was happening. He just told stories about each of the players or the pitcher.

Go listen to his call of Joe's 4th down TD run vs Mizzou. All he says is "Go Joe!". Which sounds great when you watch it on youtube and when you know he's going to score.

I listen to probably every game on the radio, at least in part. Even with Bob Barry because the TV guys drive me up a wall. Unless Gus Johnson does our game, Brad Nessler in football, and he's not even bareable anymore. I can't stand to listen to them most of the time. So Radio is a better option even with Bob Barry. But I like Merv and Houlk on the radio.

So to this is relevent to guys like me. Also when I'm at games I listen to the OU radio too. So this matters to me. It may not matter to people like you that can actually stand to listen to TV guys. But I always turn the TV down when watching almost any football/basketball game with a few exceptions.

If you can figure out an easy way to merger the radio into my Tivo video, than i will listen to the radio guys instead of TV. I will not sacrifice my abitity to pause, replay and slow mo.

Toby has a GGGGREAT voice IMO. Very witty and quick-witted at that. Very well spoken, has a voice I like to listen to...and he's EXTREMELY passionate about OU without being a lemming. He WILL call OU out whenever it's required (on his radio show).

I can't believe so many people are acting like doing radion PBP is SOOOO tough. Al and Jim sound butt-hurt on the Animal. It must kill them that doing radio is not the rocket-science type job they think it is...

Some people here need to check their meds. This is PBP and PR, which rules out a lot of the part time national voices. Toby will be very good and is a true Sooner fan. I hope he keeps his morning radio gig, it's so much better than the animal.

Why would you think the PBP hire is inconsequential? He'll be one of the faces of OU athletics; of course it matters.

People need to realize

that this hire has several areas to it as well. Carey has a great post on the other site about this. Toby will be responsible for the coaches show, as well as content on the new OU network when it goes live as well as radio duties. And for you radio guys Toby has done some PBP filling in here and there and he did fine, good voice, clear concise information and kept the broadcast rolling. I think hell be very good with more time and if Merv comes back as well as Mike then our broadcasts should be very good. I listen to most OU games on the radio and think that Toby will be fine.

Probably not, he is part of the OU family. I sure as heck would rather listen to him rather than Thulen or Carpenter, they put me to sleep.

Who said they didn't? Maybe Toby knock out the interview. Maybe Joe thought that Toby was the best for the job.

Good thing Bud didn't listen to people like traber when he went after bob barry.

Did traber have any experience doing color before the diamondbacks? Why didn't they go after a national guy? They really screwed up hiring him.
