No offense to Toby Rowland

I'll give the guy a chance, but I'm kinda upset they didn't hire a guy with experience. Ron Thulin, Bob Carpenter, they probably coulda had a good experienced guy come in.

Is this 1986? Repeat after me. This. Hire. Does. Not. Matter.
I listen to probably every game on the radio, at least in part. Even with Bob Barry because the TV guys drive me up a wall. Unless Gus Johnson does our game, Brad Nessler in football, and he's not even bareable anymore. I can't stand to listen to them most of the time. So Radio is a better option even with Bob Barry. But I like Merv and Houlk on the radio.

So to this is relevent to guys like me. Also when I'm at games I listen to the OU radio too. So this matters to me. It may not matter to people like you that can actually stand to listen to TV guys. But I always turn the TV down when watching almost any football/basketball game with a few exceptions.

Agreed. I turned BBS off years ago and this hire doesn't inspire me to turn the OUPBP back on. It's a win for the national broadcasters.

I think most on here would agree we would rather Joe go cheap on the PBP position and spend more money on the basketball coach.

is somebody really *****ing about the PBP hire when we are in search of a bball coach?

I don't really get the gnashing of teeth that is going on with the PBP hire myself.

Toby will do a good job and he's better right now than BBS was the last 10 years. It's an upgrade, IMO.

Hooray for Toby, now what about the basketball coach?

It could have been some boring guy from Nebraska. I think Toby should be given a chance before all the dumb criticism starts. I actually think he'll be a good one.

Maybe Joe realizes he is about to write some big checks and decided to save money on this hire so he could spend more on a hoops coach.

I hope he does well. A good PBP announcer is important to me. There are a couple of occasions each year that I have to work during a football game or am traveling. An improvement over BBS will take the sting off of those occasions if Toby can make listening to the radio an enjoyable experience again.

How much foresight is required for a pBp hire? Toby will do a good job and is likely here for the rest of his career. That seems like foresight.

Toby should be a color guy. He doesn't have the voice for pbp.

foresight = hire a voice, let him grow into the job with Toby as color, profit

In the early to mid 70s we hired Mike Treps as the PBP guy. I think this hire much the same way. Throughout the 70s we had like 4 or 5 different announcers. Brooks didn't take over till about 1980
