I saw on the news today that Kevin Noreen visited Norman over the weekend. Did I miss the thread on this? Also, do we have a scholarship left for him? They showed a clip on the news this morning of him playing and he didnt look very athletic. But they did say that he averaged 38 ppg.

I know there have been threads about him a while back, but does anybody know how his visit went, or if we have offered him, or have a scholarship for 2010 left for him?

Unless someone is transfering or not qualifying, we don't have any schollarships left.

According to James Hale (FWIW) Noreen visted a couple of weeks ago (during a tornado outbreak).IF he was here this weekend apparently he is REALLY intrested in OU and vice versa.Capel can oversign but IF he does ,somebody is on their way out.

wouldn't mind it... whats one more? sorry hardrick.. :yoyo

I did think of another possibility of getting Noreen to OU;academic scolarship. The kid is a 4.0 student, maybe he is in line for an academic scholly at OU(much like Beau Gerber).

I think thats more likely. Still not sure why everybody wants to run off Hardrick so badly.

If the guy is giving 100%, I would certainly hate to have him run off. However, the fact Coach Capel played him just long enough to NOT REDSHIRT, isn't really a good sign as to him ever contributing on the court.

I just hate to run off a local kid from Norman that has wanted to play for OU so badly and came to every game, never wavering as a recruit and has done nothing wrong since becoming a Sooner. He was one of the few kids on that team last year not to get arrested, in trouble with the NCAA, act like a jerk on the court or on the bench, etc.

I guess Noreen over Hardrick would be an upgrade on the court. I just hate to take a chance on a kid from Minnesota and run off a kids from Athletes First. If Noreen isn't happy hear and transfers to some Big10 school after a year or 2 (like so often happens these days) then you've lost a local kid and got nothing to show for it.

I agree.
Now if you sit down with the kid and have a heart to heart and say son you just aren't ever going to be a contributor here do you want to stay or go to a D2 school and play then that's a different story. I think that's what good honest coaches do. And I believe Capel to be that. If Hardrick leaves I believe it will be by his choice which is the way it should be otherwise he seems to be a good hardworking kid who loves OU. That's enough for me. All 13 guys can't play.

Not sure, but doesn't an academic scholly still count towards the 13? I mean, if a kid is on the team then he counts regardless of athletic, academic, whatever scholly. Otherwise, Calipari would be handing out Garden Club schollys left and right. :dance005:

If he received an academic scholly and walked-on like Beau Gerber did, then it will not count against the bball scholly limit, as I understand it.

No, he could still walk on. With that said, it is a very long shot to happen. How often do high D1 players walk on because they have an academic scholly? I can't remember any.

But you're not a "walk on" if you are on a scholly. Any scholly (well, I don't know about partial 'ships, like book $ or something). And if so, you count towards the 13. A walk-on is someone who is not on any scholarship and is paying his own way. A true walk-on would not count towards the 13, but, as you say, a highly talented and recruited walk on would be rare. I think one of the recent-ishTexas bigs did it. Mihm or Klotz?

Look at last year's roster. Weren't we full last year? We had 14 and Franklin was a walk-on.

If you're not on a scholarship to play basketball and you aren't under any requirement to play basketball in order to get your scholarship, then you would be a walk-on if you decided to play. That also goes for people who are on scholarship to play 1 sport and then go out for another after their respective season is over.

So any scholarship counts against the limit? Not just basketball scholarships? If someone is a National Merit Scholar and walks on, it counts against the scholarship limit?

Yes. The only exception I can think of is if a guy is on a football scholarship and walks on to the bb team I believe he continues to count against football.

Hardrick may have some player in him but he's not going to know unless he gets on the floor in pressure game type conditions. He could get a full ride and really good education at TU or OCU and probably significant minutes where his parents could watch every game. But sometimes floor minutes don't mean that much to some kids.

Here's the link to the article; shows it was published on May 29 (Saturday). I didn't see that edition (we no longer receive the DOK here in our part of the state and I detest reading newspapers online).

It all seems very odd to me. This looks more like the reports we received on Noreen from a month or more ago. Anyhow, I hope we are still in the running for him. I don't believe for a second, however, that Jeff would pull Hardrick's scholarship in order to sign Noreen.

Well, that's my understanding. Not even sure of the origin but I guess it seemed official at the time. :D Can't swear I'm correct, though. However, non-athletic scholarships not counting seems like it would be a system ripe for abuse.
