It seems like we shot the ball well from behind the arc today. That's encouraging given what we saw the other night. 3-point shooting was probably my biggest offensive concern coming into the season. It was good to see some long balls go down today.

I think we were all concerned about making shots from three to some extent. One game is a small sample size. But we've got to be pleased with 50% shooting (9 of 18) from behind the arc.

It's also important to note that six different players made threes in this game.

Odomes: 4 PTs, 5 Assits (lead team) & 3 steals

Had he finished a few bunnies and a dunk he might have been in double figures for points... young guy has great vision...

He needs to settle his nerves a bit for he seems anxious on his dunk shots.

McNeese 6 points 6 boards 3 blocks - I like it.

Odomes is a hair of offensive confidence away from being a star ...

Based on the “eye test” .. I was at the game:

> Everyone can play. All these guys are good, solid Division-1 basketball players.
> Length, athleticism and basketball skills in abundance.
> Plenty of young talented players with room to get better. Higher ceilings.
> Quality depth.

We all know that youthful teams will struggle early on, but these are great times to be a Sooner basketball fan. The future is bright. Sustained success of the OU basketball program is in the cards.

Thank you Coach Kruger, and staff!

Glad you posted the minutes played, Traveler! When you apply the limited minutes to each player's stats their performance is even more impressive.

This is a young but very talented team, with more on the way. The future of OU's basketball program is definitely bright!

This is exciting. Nothing like a bunch of lineup combinations to tinker with throughout the non-con slate.

I love me some Odomes.

Couldn't agree more, Ada. I didn't get to watch the live stream of the game but I recorded it this a.m. on FSSW. I can't wait to feast on the game when I get home from my office this afternoon.

That was obviously an excellent shooting performance by our Sooners. I think we all agree that these kids can play. While its unlikely we've got the experience necessary to win the Big 12 this year, our guys will have a say in who does win the conference.

Offence gets all the attention, but defense and rebounding will win more games for an inexperienced team which usually is erratic. We did well for as young as we are but will have to get better in Big XII play.

You'll like what you see on the replay, scrybe. This team has so much talent I get giddy just thinking about it! Our newcomers don't play like, well, "newcomers." They're fearless, confident and determined to be successful. They're unselfish to a fault, but they're not afraid to take an open shot or go strong to the hole when they have the opportunity. A lot of that is good coaching. But I have a feeling our coaches would say they have a group of willing, dedicated students.

It won't be like this later but we had 10 players with 15 minutes or more. But more important no significant dropoff.

It will change some against stronger competition but I think we have much more depth than last year. That was a major deficiency.

I think we are a much deeper team, but it's important to narrow the rotation for continuity's sake. All the substitutions can be disruptive to the flow of the game, so I'm betting we eventually get to a 8-9 man rotation for most of time during conference play .... not counting garbage time. Right now we're playing 11 players counting Buford.

If you count the current starters, then Freeman, McGusty, Strong, Buford, and McNeace will get a lot of minutes. That's saying Strong edges out Sheperd for backup PG duty. That still leaves us at 10.

I guess those decisions are why they pay Kruger the big bucks.

Kruger (and most other coaches) plays a ton of players early in the season, then the rotation shrinks the closer conference play gets. But having 10-11 capable players is a blessing, not a curse.

I'm with Ada: I couldn't be more excited for this team's prospects.
