Oklahoma @ West Virginia: 3 PM

Critical win... What's interesting is I thought WVU was a horrible matchup for us but OU swept them. They just don't get anything from the guards.

West Virginia can’t throw it in the ocean from the pier.

I'm hoping we play them again in KC. That would be our best opportunity to get that monkey off our back up there.

People don't seek out company of those who irritate them. It's just a fact. deal with it or stop being so negative. this isn't a government endeavor so you have NO right to "free speech".

Try to going into a sports bar where the fans of a particular team gather and loudly ragging on that team throughout the game and afterward -- even when the team wins the game. You'll not be very popular, and in some cases, you'd be asking for an ass-kicking (not that I'm endorsing that response).

Several themes usually appear in this type of debate.

1) "I am just exercising my freedom of speech rights". Yes we all have those rights but they are not always used constructively and with respect. There are many who do some very damaging, ugly and hurtful things under the guise of freedom of speech.

2) "I am just expressing constructive criticism". Except there is only criticism and no consideration of any other point of view. I have respect for posters like Hoopsaustin, Cool, Ada, Sky and Coach and many others because they can be pretty critical but also recognize good play. I have very little respect for those who only criticize or are total sunshine pumpers because they are not objective and reject the other side of the argument.

3) "I have higher standards than you". I have coached in the army and at high school levels. I see good and bad in every game and with every player. We have some who believe they have a right to only have good results and their so called standards are beyond reach so that gives them a right to trash coaches and players. Some probably are just hoping to prove how smart they are.

The worst are those who a constantly negative but disappear when things are going well and then come back to express how abused they feel when someone comments on their negativism.

But we will have many more conversations like this.

ever since the 90's every sooner basketball board goes through this same debate at some point.

I've tried to figure out what social dynamic causes it.

Seems like banding together under the guise of "sooner basketball fans" is a tenuous link that gets worn out after a short period as people with one idea of what being a fan means are mixed with those of differing ideas. In the end it always comes down to this "sunshine pumpers" debate.

2 iterations or so ago I was accused of being the big "sunshine pumper" promoter as the few who are still here from that time might remember. Point is it's natural and will always come to a head in the same manner.

People generally come here to discuss the program and its' games with those of similar likes. But those eventually further sift out based on reactions and approach. It's empirically verified.

So if those who own and run this board prefer to restrict it to people who aren't so negative then that's their right. It's their board. Their property. If that's a problem find a board that embraces your negative diatribes more easily.

Free speech is an individual right, a right we've had our whole lives. With that said, I am reminded of bars which are exclusive in nature and you have to be someone to get in. They are essentially for discrimination, segregation, class typing, non-inclusiveness and a litany of other manners to divide the demographics that is society yet they proclaim they are for the rights of all individuals. It would be nice if people had the ability to make up their minds. I have a dream.............

Big win on the road. Almost seals getting in, but would be great to go 3-1 or 4-2 to get to that 7 seed. Thought everyone played at least solid, except for Williams. When Harmon & Bienemy are a threat to make a shot it makes it so much easier for everyone else, especially Doolittle & Reaves.

Bieniemy played really well. If we can get consistently good play and contributions out of JB, Harmon, and Kuath to go along with Doo, manek, and reaves... we could really do some damage in March.

Bieniemy comes across as an enigma to me because I know he has the talent to get the job done, but there seems to be something missing and maybe that is confidence. Hopefully his last game will help him build on that confidence and be the player he can be. I think Doolittle had the same problem and we can see before our eyes how he has blossomed as a player.

He’s always one of our best players. Rarely has a game where he doesn’t play well. Has too many games where he doesn’t score well, largely because he doesn’t look to score enough, but he is almost always very good in every other area.

I was attempting to illustrate his offensive game and not other aspects. I think it was the Tech game where he took a one handed running jumper and other posters had a "oh no what is he doing" moment and I can say I thought just the opposite for I am glad he had the confidence to take that shot because the opposing teams are glad to leave him open to take these shots. He needs to make them pay for it.
