OT: Football Talk

They were speaking as if 2023 was DG's final season before that season began. There was not attempt to retain him. They had their much ballyhooed five-star in JA. I think if they'd told DG early on they wanted him to lead them into the SEC and backed it up with some cash, he'd have stayed. He only went shopping because OU had not shown any interest in his return. And when they finally did (if they ever did), it was too late.

I was calling out that decision long before the 2023 season ended. The last thing I wanted was for us to enter the SEC with an inexperienced sophomore QB. I thought that was a recipe for disaster even before all the WR and OL injuries. Unfortunately, I was right. I dearly wish I'd been wrong.
It was agreed upon by both parties before the season because DG planned on going pro

Couldn’t wait to hear this. It’s laughable at this point. Every time we miss a guy in every sport, you point to money whether there is any evidence or not. I mean, I can agree that our basketball program might not be able to match offers with Kentucky for Garrison. But OU football not being able to match Texas Tech?!? In the most recent pod, Gabe and Teddy agreed that their sources have said our football program is in very good shape when it comes to NIL. They said not on the level of a Bama or OSU, obviously, but in good shape overall. So I will never believe that every time we lose a player, it is a money issue.
Ou will
Of course but not for this guy.

Ou softball didn’t match for Stanford pitcher.
We’ll see about Chavez girl for the wbb

Lots of wr’s out there.

Most of this is wrong. No chance at keeping DG bc oregon
I'm talking about wrapping him up prior to the 2023 season. Instead, they were already talking about him as if he was gone. OU made no attempt to retain him and Oregon saw its opening. If he was planning to go to Oregon prior to the 2023 season--the point in time I'm talking about--he could have (would have) done it then, not later.

That could be. You stay after him. You offer him money to make him reconsider. The coaches must have had some sense of his limited chances of getting drafted; take advantage of that.

My main point was that it was insane to think we'd be SEC-ready with an inexperienced, unproven QB. I think they could have convinced DG to stay if they'd be proactive about it, but they seemingly didn't try.

So since there are so many guys out there, I guess you won’t make any excuses if we end up missing out on all the top guys? Again, three years in, and can you identify any skill position transfer who has made an impact for us?

Andrel Anthony was very impactful

Andrel Anthony was very impactful
So he was very impactful yet now he’s one of the guys that people are acting like will be very easy to replace. I can’t keep up.

He certainly could have been very impactful, but he played seven games in two seasons. If a guy who played 25 percent of games in his two seasons is the best portal player we can point to, that says a lot. There just isn’t any recent history to suggest that we will bring in a bunch of new guys who will be immediate difference makers.

Keep showing how ridiculous you are. It’s truly unbelievable that you are unwilling to acknowledge that things are in bad shape. To recap the Venables era: he has gone .500 or worse in two of three seasons. He has presided over one of the worst offenses in history. His OC hire was so bad he had to fire him after 7 games. He lost a Heisman caliber quarterback because he was eager to hand it over to an unproven kid because of his potential. He and his staff then did an atrocious job developing that kid, to the point we had the worst quarterback play in the conference.

He is bleeding players to the portal, one of his best players left because of issues with the training staff, and we just signed a recruiting class that barely cracked the top 20.

And yet instead of acknowledging that things are a mess, your response is to basically act like things are fine, we need time to see how things will work out, and people questioning things are idiots and were likely also calling for Bob Stoops to be fired.

Dillon Gabriel. Andrel Anthony. Eric gray but I think he was already here. Burks is really good but he was hurt. We have had success with more portals at other positions. Last years portal Class wasn’t good tho, but previous ones were pretty good.

There is plenty of talent in the portal. We just have to get our share.

You believe the twitter lies from the dumb fans. Training staff issue are blown out of proportion. Some followed some went to their own “guy” how were some of those guys healed as soon as the portal opened?

He didn’t lose DG. That’s also fake news. BV addressed that and so has DG. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

What players are we bleeding? Only BT was a surprise. I assume they’ll be a few more.

This team went 6/6 why would you want to run back?

You’re showing your true colors again.

You’re right, my bad. All is good. We are all silly for not being happy with 6-6 and 22-16.

I don’t believe a word Brent says about Gabriel. Brent talks a lot and little he says comes true. And regardless of how it came about, he did lose Gabriel. The kid is still playing college football, and not in OU colors.

As for my true colors, that’s one of your go-to lines and it is as meaningless as SOUL mission. My true colors are that I am not happy with one of the five best programs in history turning into a .500 program because of Brent’s ineptitude. If you’re cool with us being a mediocre program, good for you.

And even if some of the transfers were not surprises, who cares? Is it ok to lose Nic Anderson just because it was expected? Or the “very impactful” Anthony who you just mentioned?

And I don’t want to run it back. I think the entire offensive staff earned pink slips. I think our line needs to be revamped. I’d like to finally have a decent TE. And I’d like to keep our best receivers while hopefully figuring out how to keep them on the field.

I have no idea who your source is and don’t mean to question you personally, but I’ve not seen this rumor reported anywhere. Brent has shown a strong tendency to want to hire and people OU guys, so it seems very much like hiring Seth would have been his call.
That's fine

Lol you must not know much about ou football.. The training staff is a HUGE issue and is being underreported. They had anonymous player surveys about it just a week or 2 ago. And Joe c turned around and said he didn't see anything wrong and that there won't be any changes.. I hope the players get over it or it'll be a negative to recruiting. Perception is reality, whether right or wrong

Ok….

Teddy and Gabe have been talking about this for a good 10 or 12 days (three podcast episodes and counting). They've gone from seeming to buy NIck Anderson's negative account (with some caveats) to seeming to think his version of things doesn't really ring true (they're not going after Anderson, but they have turned to defending the training program). And there is already in the works, according to T&G, a move to an NFL approach to training and medical practices and procedures, so Joe C. is not sitting on his hands.

You can’t tell all
The fake Ou insiders (front running) fans that. They know everything

You mean guys leaving sent in negative anonymous survey? LOL

As to the medical staff…both sides may be at fault. However, when a player goes outside the medical staff and gets treatment, how is the medical staff able to treat them when they don’t know what’s happening outside of their care?

I’ve heard one WR went outside OU for treatment and started taking other WR with him which lead to division and a full on mutiny at the position. Now all of those WR have hit the portal. Guys that produced jack squat this year. Good riddance.
