OU hangs on to beat Cowboys [The Oklahoman]

I know that OSU made a run and it got close midway through the second half, but this game wasn't really that close most of the time. I'm not usually one to complain about a story, but I don't care for the "OU hangs on" headline. It makes it sound like the game was tight throughout and we eeked out a win.

For pete's sake, who wrote that headline -- Reid Gettys?

Sky, you're giving Reid way too much credit. He's the guy who said more than once last night that OSU would be in the running for a NCAA birth if they could win three of their next four games.

I don't think it is necessarily right to say we hung on but they did cut it to 3 points and were on fire and threatening.

We had a double-digit lead the last nine minutes of the game. Yes, oswho made a nice little comeback, but we retook control of the game and retained it throughout the remainder of the second half.

That's not hanging on, by any definition.

And did anyone notice that Gettys had to eat his words regarding what he perceived as OU fouls on at least two occasions?

Gettys stated matter-of-factly multiple times that an OU player had committed a foul and should have been whistled…then the replays clearly showed that the so-called fouls never happened. I guess I just never realized what a huge OSU homer the guy is.

When you had been up 18+ points and the lead is cut to 3. I call that hanging on. We hung on and retook control. I don't see an issue with the headline

I noticed. He's always been a bad color commentator, but last night was new low for him.

And what if oswho had pulled within 3 points at the five-minute mark of the second half, instead of halfway through, and we'd retaken control for the rest of the game, would that still qualify as us "hanging on"?

What if they'd made it a three-point game at half time, but had trailed by double digits the entire second half? Would we have still "hung on" for the win?

How about the ten-minute mark in the first half?

oswho deserves some credit for their comeback and had they remained within striking distance after cutting it to three, fine -- but they didn't. Not even close. We didn't hang on, we retook control of the game and put them away -- heck, we mounted our largest lead of the game after they cut it to three.

That's hardly hanging on.
