QUICK PREVIEW
Winner of 10 of its last 12 games, No. 15/14 Oklahoma (22-9 overall, 12-6 Big 12) plays No. 13/15 Iowa State (23-8, 12-6) in a rubber match in the Big 12 Championship semifinals Friday at approximately 8:30 p.m. CT at Sprint Center in Kansas City. The third-seeded Sooners and second-seeded Cyclones split the season series with the home team winning each contest. The winner of Friday's game will play No. 1 seed Kansas or No. 4 seed Baylor in Saturday's 5 p.m. CT title game.

ON THE AIR
Friday's game will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM; KTBZ AM 1430 in Tulsa) with Toby Rowland and Mike Houck calling the action. It will be televised by ESPN2 with Brent Musburger, Fran Fraschilla and Holly Rowe announcing.

THIS YEAR VS. THE CYCLONES
Oklahoma and Iowa State split the regular season series, with the Sooners winning 94-83 Feb. 9 in Norman and the Cyclones claiming a 77-70 decision March 2 in Ames. In the first meeting, No. 17 OU came back from a 10-point first-half deficit to take a 20-point second-half lead in an eventual 94-83 win over No. 14 ISU. TaShawn Thomas led five Sooners in double figures with 22 points (11-for-18 shooting) and tied season highs with 11 rebounds (third double-double of year) and 5 assists while adding 3 blocks. Ryan Spangler also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards, while Isaiah Cousins scored 19 points (3 for 4 from 3-point range), Buddy Hield 17 (3 for 8 from 3-point range) and Frank Booker 14 (4 for 6 from 3-point range).

In the rematch, the No. 15 Sooners led by 21 points early in the second half and were up 48-28 with 14:55 remaining before getting outscored 49-22 the rest of the way. After scoring 18 points in the first 20 minutes (its fewest in a half this season), No. 16 ISU scored 59 after halftime (at the time a season high for points in a half). Hield scored a game-high 26 points while Cousins added 12 and Jordan Woodard 10. Georges Niang paced the Cyclones with 23 points (20 after halftime) while Monté Morris added 19 (16 after half).

Play defense for 40 minutes! If we can manage it, I think we have a good shot. I want to beat Kansas for the Championship. Let's make it there, Sooners!

I really am interested to see how we play defense on them this time if they iso us with Niang on like Cousins or Buddy. They really exposed us one on one in that second half. Could we play some zone?

It's simple. We just need to lead by 20 with only 4 minutes left this time, not 14.

The issue was when Spangs or Thomas was on Niang in the second half and he would beat them off the dribble and then score/get fouled or find the open man if the help came.

We would be better off putting Buddy or Cousins ON him if they do Iso ball instead of running their offense.

I also think it's huge for Spangs to push McCay around. No sissy ball like last time. He's gotta play physical with him and really come out and manhandle him on the boards.

I think I'd rather play kansas again than isu.

I agree. ISU presents so many matchup issues. I wish we could exploit niang being undersized. I think that's the biggest a issue. Is everyone looks at them and says 'oh crap niang will exploit us with his versatility' instead of going and and making his size his disadvantage by going right at him. I can't remember correctly but I think he was guarding Spangler. It makes me think we need to ISO Spangler down low and let him try and go right at him. Spangs is stronger and the only way niang could defend him is being EXTREMELY physical which means more fouls.

Style-wise, we match up much better with ISU than KU. Niang presents a matchup problem, but we have outplayed ISU for 60 of 80 minutes. We win tonight.

True, but that creates other issues. Niang in the post against a guard, or one of our bigs on one of their guards.

Not a big fan of zone against them either. Too many shooters. They are not an easy team to defend.

you hafta value possessions against ISU. They're one of those big spurt teams and they have a tendency to be lulled to sleep if you don't give them a bunch of sparks. Be stingy with the ball and don't give them easy stuff and they drop off. At least thats been their MO for the second half of the season.

Yeah, it's apparent that we match up better with ISU than with Kansas. Iowa State is very beatable (by the Sooners), especially away from Hilton Coliseum. Texas would have beaten them last night, if not for some impatient and boneheaded play by the whorns in the last couple of minutes.

I hope we don't go in to a long spell like in the previous outing where we had poor shot selection just for the sake of scoring in an effort to offset their prolonged offensive run which they unleashed on us.

Their crowd sure made it seem like Hilton and I'm not speaking of an overpriced hotel chain or elder sister.
