In a matchup of two of the nation’s highest-scoring teams, Oklahoma (12-3, 1-1) hosts No. 9/7 Iowa State (14-0, 2-0) on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners and Cyclones each average 87.0 points per game, tied for sixth most nationally. OU started 11-1 on the year but has lost two of its last three. Iowa State’s 14-0 start is its best in school history.

PREVIEWING IOWA STATE
Picked fourth in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll, Iowa State (14-0, 2-0) is one of five remaining undefeated teams nationally. The No. 9/7 Cyclones are tied (with OU) for sixth in the country in scoring offense (87.0 ppg) and lead the nation in assists (19.1 apg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (nation-best 2.0). They also lead the Big 12 in 3-pointers (9.1 per game) and rank second in scoring margin (+19.5 per game) and field goal percentage defense (.392). ISU has posted wins over three ranked teams, all at home: 77-70 over then-No. 7 Michigan, 85-82 over then-No. 23 Iowa and 87-72 over No. 7 Baylor on Tuesday. It was the second-largest victory margin against an AP top-10 team in program history.
Iowa State boasts four of the Big 12’s top four scorers, and three of them rank in the top 10. Senior forward Melvin Ejim, last year’s Big 12 leader in rebounding (9.3), is averaging a team-high 17.8 points on .521 field goal shooting, as well as 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Senior guard DeAndre Kane, a first-year Cyclone who transferred from Marshall, ranks eighth in the Big 12 in scoring (16.1), 10th in rebounding (7.1), first in assists (6.3) and second in steals (1.5). He is coming off a 30-point, 8-rebound, 9-assist, 5-steal game against Baylor. Sophomore forward Georges Niang averages 15.4 points and 3.6 assists, while junior forward Dustin Hogue averages 12.3 points and a Big 12-leading 9.6 rebounds an outing. Sophomore guard Naz Long (8.4 ppg) has made a team-high 29 3-pointers (shooting .460).
Fred Hoiberg is in his fourth year as a collegiate head coach and owns a 76-39 record. He was a 1995 third-team All-American at Iowa State and is the school’s third-leading all-time scorer (1,993 points). The Ames native played 10 years in the NBA.
