OU-KU games on all afternoon.

The 2002 Big-12 Championship game is on now. Great memories!

Man, this brings back some memories. What a battle this game was.

Final two minutes:

Some SERIOUS defense being played in that game/era. Every pass and jumpshot contested. This is crazy to watch. Been a while.

Those that think our current defense don't have a ways to go should watch. :)

I've often called that game some of the best defense I've seen at the college level. That KU team had a lot of offensive weapons.

That call on Ace at the two minute mark was all too typical of what teams (not just OU) have seen for years in the Phog. It's an advantage only Duke can match.

I forgot how much of a wild man that Kelvin was on the sidelines....very demonstrative. He was a heck of a coach though. And it is amazing we have another great coach, but his mannerisms on the sideline are so much different...Lon is so laid back.

Yeah, really amazing on both ends. Guards being picked up tightly 3/4 of the court, simple swing passes around the perimeter you see today were ferociously contested in that game.

Also brings back memories of the Final Four in Atlanta. Man, that was a long drive home. Never been more sick to my stomach after a loss than that one. Yes, including football. I was a little too young to feel that way for the 88 title game.

F U, Tom Coverdale!

OMG, the somewhat baby-faced Szendrei on the bench.

Almost too laid back sometimes. I wouldn't mind if Lon put some of the competitiveness he demonstrated as a player on display, maybe even get a red-in-the-face technical on occasion. lol Make no mistake, though, winning is just as important to him as it was to Kelvin. They just have a different way of showing it.

And now we've got last year's OU-KU game in Lawrence on ESPN Classic. Not going to get anything done today.

Still the best defensive performance I've seen in a college basketball game.

That was a great day. Felt good to stand in Kemper in applaud while all the KU fans left, thanks for posting

Thinking back to that season, it is a perfect example of why I disagree with those claiming the Big 12 is having one of our best years.

I don't really care how good the bottom of the league is. That is a weak argument. That is what the SEC uses in football to try and put their conference on top. Our 10th best team can beat your 10th best team. Who cares? If your 10th best team, or our 10th best team, can't beat any of the top 2-3 in either league, it's a moot point.

I didn't realize this, but OU didn't even finish in 2nd place in the Big 12 in 2002. Nope, we finished 3rd, a game behind UT. The top of that league was RIDICULOUS that year. OU. KU. UT. OSU was pretty good. Mizzou made the Elite 8, only to be knocked out by OU.

I would much rather have to fight thru this year's Big 12, than that year's. This OU team probably finishes 5th, at best, in that 2002 Big 12. Tough league that year.

I agree. I can remember some really good years of the Big 12 with in the late 90's early 00's which top to bottom was a really good league.

I don't think that argument is what's gotten the SEC all the attention it's received at all -- in fact, I think you have it exactly backward. They've been hyped because of their national titles and their top ten teams. The lower teams in the conference aren't given a thought by the national press.

And that's exactly the point that Stoops made in calling them out some months back, saying, in essence, Sure they've got some great teams at the top of the conference, but the rest of the teams are nothing special.

That may be the media spin, but that is not what the average SEC fans are saying when they are pimping their team on messages board. I've read over and over how a team like aTm, that finished with the 6th or 7th best overall record in the SEC, would destroy a team like TT/WVU/TCU. The fans claim the SEC is a deeper conference, and that depth makes it much tougher to go thru the SEC, than the Big 12. And like I always do, I'll state that that claim means very little.

Top heavy leagues are much tougher to get thru. It doesn't really matter how good the bad teams are, they are still bad. What is tough, is having those 3-5 teams at the top that are all legit. That makes for a rough schedule.
