.@peyton_little poured in 15 points in the third '10 minute' interval. The guard drained a perfect 4-4 from beyond the 3-pt arc.

The good news....nobody got hurt
The Bad....players have the same habits as in the past-KK fouls, Gioya threw bad passes, teams had too many unforced turnovers, shooting was only so-so
The other good news...sparks of really good offense with movement away from ball, quick ball movement both around to open outside players, and to inside for open shots (but some of the turnovers from bad passes inside), lots of players that looked good handling the ball (Gabby, Derica, T'ona, Peyton, Maddie, ), and lots of depth. Sherri's teams usually don't look "smooth" early in the season, and the sharpness was up and down, but with lots of promise.
Derica, T'ona look improved, Gioya at times looked good.
Peyton shot and played well-definitely a starter
Maddie good at times, but also a little rusty?
K Williams used her experience inside to look good, but still not a big 12 center. Treece looked basketball smart, able to rebound, short half hook inside, but still a freshman. Vivi limping still looks like she has a nice future tbd after healtly-limited playing time for her. Also Vivi.s 6'4" is smaller than M Treece's 6'4"
Nicole Kornet looked a little better than last year, nice mid range jumper.
Sharane also looked like a veteran, good inside.
Did not think Gabby looked like a starter yet, needs playing time.
Shaya with a foot problem, out two more weeks.
LeNesia Williams athletic, but more experienced players in front of her.
W Richie won't embarrass us if she plays
Overall, quite a bit of depth, and early in the season to know now good this team can be
Just off the top of my head inpressions

Thanks, SoonerMike. Just scanning the stats, it would appear that the more experienced players took control of the scrimmage. Maddie did score, but she also appeared to have had a decent night with steals, rebounds, and blocked shots. Peyton took over once she got going.

Even Derica and Nicole were a lot more productive than the newcomers. I was a bit surprised at Gabi. Insecurity?

Peyton certainly shot the ball well but she also had 6 turnovers, if I looked at the pages correctly.

It was an interesting scrimmage. I was so glad that Sherri only played the girls. None of the guys that practice with them played. The pleasant surprise for me was the posts. McKenna, Kaylon, and ViVi all played extremely well. McKenna will remind everyone of Joanna, without the three point shot. She finished off the glass, rebounded well, and has soft hands. In my opinion she did not play like a freshman. ViVi had a little bit of a problem getting up and down the court, however once she set up, she played good defense, and made good opportunities at the glass. Also has good hands. Kaylon played well, but still needs to work on her fouling. We have a good set of bigs regardless, in my opinion.

Maddie is going to be a star. Her confidence and poise is that of a seasoned veteran. She has it all, can penetrate, dish off, hit the outside shot. She did not shoot very well, but I'm not worried. Played good solid defense. She seems to really like to rebound and got a few offensive, as well on the defensive end.

Peyton got off to a slow start. Her biggest weakness is the same as Nicole. If she doesn't get set on her jumper, forget it. Once she gets square to the basket and doesn't float, she is deadly. She hit some nice three's and had some drives.

Sharane, rock solid. Took the ball inside to score and hit some nice 3's. She will get plenty of minutes whether starting or from the bench. No worries with her.

Nicole, played well. Again when she is set and doesn't float on her shot, deadly. I don't think she will get off to a slow start this season.

Derica is vastly improved from last year. Still solid on defense. Hit some nice outside shots, and showed her ability to go inside and score. She will earn some playing time.

Gioya, I don't know. I really like her. I like her passion. She really needs to work on finishing at the rim, and be more pin point on her passes. Once she puts it all together, Carter is going to be a dangerous threat. That will be sooner not later.

Gabi, I didn't think she had a particular good scrimmage, but she has a swagger about her and confidence you just don't see in a freshman. I don't think she will start, but she will get plenty of earned minutes. She takes care of the ball. Plays solid defense, and passes the ball well. She didn't shoot very well in the scrimmage, but that doesn't mean any thing this early in practice.

T'Ona, Played okay, is improved from last year, still needs to develop an outside shot. She will be a good point guard off the bench.

LeNesia, She did not stand out in the scrimmage, however, she is very athletic, has nice range. She is a freshman, and if she keeps positive, she could get some playing time later in the season, too many guards in front of her at the moment, that will get playing time.

Whitney, A very pleasant surprise, she knows basketball and played very well, she won't get a lot of playing time, but wouldn't hurt us if she did.

Shaya, on crutches and 2 weeks or so out.

Penzo, well we will see next season.

I really liked the ball movement on offense. There were some really nice passes to the post. Nice off ball movement, and kids not standing around. Need to work on solid screens and get a body on the defense. Rebounding was okay, not great. There were too many forced passes in the paint, and some no look were not close. Some things you expect with a lot of youngsters playing.

Stand outs to me, Post play, Maddie directing traffic, Peyton's shooting, Sharane picking up where she left off, Derica, Nicole, and Gioya's improvement. I was impressed with how smart the freshmen are around the ball. I think as the season goes on, this team will surprise their fans, and especially teams in the Big XII. The kids have raised their defensive intensity, and I hope that will be a strength all season long. I see some really good stuff coming from this group.

I guess "Natalie" is Whitney Ritchie? Because I went back to the roster thinking we had added someone. :) Anyway, thanks to you and Sooner Mike for your thoughts.

Vivi is slow because of injury....correct? I had thought that a few months ago, she wasn't expected to play this soon. I was surprised when she was in the live practise.

Where the heck did I get Natalie, what an Idiot.:facepalm Thanks for the correction.

No doubt Vivi is working through her re-hab. Once she got settled in the post, she did some nice things. Really nice hands.

I don't know where you got "Natalie" but it is something that I would do. :) I started not to address it but thought maybe you would rather see it now than later. Anyway, like I said, I thought maybe we had a new player or something, so it made me look. I wasn't that confident.

Re Vivi, I just wanted to be sure that it was because of her recovery that people thought she looked slow.

What scares me is that we won't have the defense, rebounding or consistent offense......that we will settle for 3 point shots and not be able to get to the basket. Kay Kay is so good when she doesn't foul. I hope that improves because I enjoyed her first year.

I can't remember what you said about Derica but I remember last year that I thought she did a lot of good things on the floor that others didn't. She didn't do well offensively but think she might have if she had gone to the basket or taken a short range jumper.........course, maybe that is not in her game.

Finally, I was looking forward to seeing if Shaya had improved. Either she was never that big or she has lost weight. Seen recent pics of her out of uniform and she looked thin. Also that first day of practice video, she seemed to be moving well.

Guess I should quit rambling here.

If Peyton can shoot well from the outside and be able to get inside and knock down the mid-range jump shots, that will be a big piece of what we need this year. Hopefully, Maddie can do the same thing.

I think Gabbi will continue to improve and by the time we get into conference play, she should be fine. I do think people will appreciate Morgan more this year than they seemed to in previous years.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to Derica's Dad at the Big XII tournament last March. Great family, and we discussed Derica and the team. He told me that Derica is not just a three point specialist, but can drive and and shoot the mid range jumper. I got to see her on line during her high school play offs and she can do it all. It was nice to see her display that last night. I think she will bring alot to the team this season and will be a pleasant surprise.

You are right about Vivi, her knee seems still a little stiff, but as I said, once she gets set up in the post, she does a very nice job. She take contact well and can finish at the rim. I am looking forward to when she is 100%.

I certainly agree with rocjunkie. And I think both McKenna and Vivi when healthy will be real competition for KK for playing time. Maybe more quality depth than I have seen in a while.
Looking forward to this year, but am expecting early growing pains, and big improvement in the team as the year goes along. I hope the competition for playing time pushes every player to get work hard and improve this whole year.

Here is Sherri's thoughts on the night. KK is the first one she mentions

Good video. My computer kept buffering last night and I gave up. Glad you posted the link because I had forgotten about it. So ANYONE notice Whitney Ritchie giving out candy? It cracked me up because it looked like she just grabbed a handful from her bucket and just threw it in a couple of kids bags. I have a feeling she might be a fun person with her own style.

And nice to hear Sherri's take. I am a believer in Sharane and Kay Kay so enjoyed hearing what she said about them. Looking forward to Wednesday's game.
