BATTLE 4 ATLANTIS BASICS
Oklahoma is participating in the eight-team, 12-game Battle 4 Atlantis tournament Wednesday-Friday on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. The fourth annual event will be played inside the 3,900-seat Imperial Arena, a converted ballroom at the Atlantis resort. The Sooners will play UCLA at 1:30 p.m. CT in the opening round and will face Butler or North Carolina in the second round. OU's third-round opponent will be Florida, Georgetown, UAB or Wisconsin. Florida and Wisconsin were Final Four teams last year. Past winners of the Battle 4 Atlantis were Harvard (2011), Duke (2012) and Villanova (2013).

Wednesday's OU-UCLA contest will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM "The Franchise" in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa) with Toby Rowland and Mike Houck calling the action. The game will be televised by ESPN2 with Dan Shulman, Jay Bilas and Andy Katz announcing.

OU-UCLA SERIES HISTORY
Oklahoma and UCLA have met three times and the Bruins prevailed on each occasion in Los Angeles. UCLA won 65-53 during the 1957-58 season, 101-64 in the 1962-63 campaign and 111-66 in 1974-75. John Wooden was the Bruins' coach in all three meetings, and the 1974-75 season marked his final one as a head coach (UCLA won its 10th national title under his direction that year, all coming in a 12-year span).

PREVIEWING UCLA
UCLA enters play this week with a 4-0 record. Picked fourth in the preseason Pac-12 media poll after advancing to last year's NCAA Sweet 16, the Bruins have posted home wins over Montana State (113-78), Coastal Carolina (84-71), Nicholls State (107-74) and Long Beach State (77-63). UCLA is averaging 95.2 points per game to rank fifth nationally, and is shooting .494 from the field and .424 from 3-point range (9.0 makes per game).

The Bruins saw three players from last year's 28-9 squad (finished 12-6 and in second place in the Pac-12) picked in the first round of June's NBA Draft (No. 13 overall selection Zach LaVine, No. 22 Jordan Adams and No. 30 Kyle Anderson). The lone returning starter from last year is guard Norman Powell, a senior who averages a team-high 21.3 points on .520 field goal and .524 (11 for 21) 3-point shooting. Sophomore guard Bryce Alford is averaging 20.0 points and 9.7 assists a contest, and is shooting .414 from long range (12 for 29) and .909 from the free throw line (20 for 22). Freshman forward Kevon Looney averages 14.8 points and a team-high 12.0 rebounds, junior forward/center Tony Parker averages 13.0 points and 7.3 boards, and sophomore guard Isaac Hamilton contributes 13.0 points and 2.5 assists. Hamilton is shooting .429 from behind the arc (9 for 21).

Head coach Steve Alford is 32-9 in his second year at UCLA. His 28 wins last season tied the school record for most victories in a head coach's first year (Gene Bartow). Alford owns a 495-244 career record, having also coached at Manchester College, Missouri State, Iowa and New Mexico. A 1987 Indiana graduate, Alford won the national title that year with the Hoosiers.

Great photo. If I were Buddy, I'd tell cousins to pull his shorts up.

UCLA is going to be a tough game, but I'm expecting some room inside for Thomas and Spangler to work.

Almost a must win now, with UNC losing. Whoever loses this game then has to play UNC for the right to be 0-2...

Or all of the above. Keep us poor souls posted, please!

It was listed on ESPN3 earlier but now it's not. Stuck here at work with poor radio reception and no TV...:facepalm

Lots of sloppy play and poor transition defense so far.

Need to continue to take it to the basket....and please tap the brakes on jacking 3's early in the shot clock. I would like to see Thomas post up on the lower block and go to work.

9-6 UCLA at the under 16 timeout.
