Newell makes a 3!

45-33 Half

Newell is showing some skills

Newell has some upside. An offseason of working on his handles and three point shooting will make him a better player next year. He can drive to the hole and beat his man. I like his on the ball defense but he still needs to improve overall on D. He's still young and improvement will come.

Being down by 12 at half is not that bad considering ku was having a layup drill most of the game.

This is what I've said about him the last few weeks and I've been ripped mercilessly by ouhoops11, brgch, and many others.

He has much better defensive instincts than Pledger and he brings another dimension to the game with his drive to the bucket.

That's just an exaggeration.
Our defense hasn't been that bad. KU has made a lot of contested mid-range jumpers.

It's just that every time he's been in a game up till this one he only does stupid things when he's in there.

That's because they are playing him out of position which isn't fair to him. He's not a PG, he's a 2G. Now, maybe he's playing better today at the PG but IMO, playing PG psyches him out and he does stupid stuff. He is never in the game long enough to get settled down so we get Carl and his umpteen turnovers per game.

I liked Newell over Blair from the very first time I watched them. Blair is too slow. Newell has the quickness to be good at this level. I felt like Capel always got on Newell and it hurt his confidence. He was thinking too much instead of just playing. When he just goes out and plays, he's a good player.

I am really coming around on the Capel system. With low expectations and continuous ass whippings I haven't had My heart ripped out in a while.

Exactly. Well put.

2nd half starts

KU misses

Cade hits an easy 2. 45-35 KU

19:01 remaining.

Capel called for a technical after a 3 was blocked. Capel thought it was a foul.

52-35 17:45 remaining

Neal gets hammered on a three, Capel goes crazy, and a T. The one positive about Jeff is that he is always right when he gets a T.
