Freshman leads Oklahoma in exhibition win over UCO

Sherri Coale spoke earlier this week about whether Ana Llanusa could crack Oklahoma’s starting lineup this season.

“She’s right there,” OU’s coach said.
Llanusa sure played like it Friday.

The freshman scored a game-high 20 points off the bench in her debut, leading the No. 22 Sooners in an 86-64 exhibition victory over Central Oklahoma at Lloyd Noble Center.

Llanusa had just two turnovers in 24 minutes on a night OU gave up possession 17 times. She shot 9 of 21 from the field and 2 of 7 from three.

Senior guard Gabbi Ortiz shined from deep, scoring 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from beyond the 3-point line while playing a team-high 31 minutes.

Division II UCO was within 32-27 with less than three minutes until halftime when Ortiz buried her second trey.

She stayed hot, knocking down four 3s in the third quarter to help put away the pesky Bronchos, who chipped an 18-point lead down to seven in the when Blake Blessington scored 10 straight points.

Blessington finished with 17 but UCO couldn’t keep pace in the fourth quarter.
OU was too much for the Bronchos inside.

Sooner senior center Vionise Pierre-Louis fell just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Freshman forward Mandy Simpson had a huge game on the glass with 17 rebounds in addition to seven points.

OU outrebounded UCO 50-39 and scored 26 second-chance points.
All nine active Sooners on the roster played and combined for 41 percent shooting from the field.

Per the usual with preseason games, there were blemishes. OU was 17 of 26 from the foul line. Leading returning scorer Maddie Manning scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, but committed five turnovers.

OU had 20 assists on 30 made field goals. Guard Shaina Pellington dished six assists with five turnovers, and scored nine points.

The Sooners play another home exhibition Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State before beginning the regular season against Belmont Nov. 10 (7 p.m.) at Lloyd Noble Center.

The five turnovers ascribed to Maddie were in obvious error on the scorekeeper's part. Totally blind, dumb and stupid.

Another poster on this board thinks every turnover that Maddie makes is someone elses fault. LOL

When the other team has the ball, and you steal it, the scorekeeper who calls that a turnover on you tends to be incompetent. Got it?

Sybarite is right. The scorekeeper is either dyslexic or has something personal against Maddie.

If a team mate inbounds the ball to you but throws it 4 feet over your outstretched arms and the ball is caught by an opponent, how is that a turnover against you?
