The only positive side of being bounced early is that as a coaching staff
Sherri is going to have nearly 10 days to recharge/rethink.

It's hard? to make changes in the grind of the conference play.
You have a little to retool?

Is there anything you would change or try.

I would like to see what happens if Coach Coale would put Kay Kay in with Nicole Griffin for 8 minutes at a time.

Spend the ENTIRE off season teaching the to ONLY throw good passes into the post. For 15 years we haven't figured that one out. Many of our turnovers, and there are waaaaaay too many every year, come from just dumb passes into the post that never could be caught or completed.

Everytime in drills that they throw one of these, they should have to take a lap or two. Make it painful to throw a bad pass in practice Everytime and maybe they won't do it in games.

I agree. I would go big with either Griffin and Williams or Griffin and Durrett. Play Gibbs and Kellog a lot too.

The 4 guard is a big part of what got us in this mess. It's never going to get us out, paticularly in a weave offense and when our best shooters are down around 30-35 percent from behind the arc.

Pound it inside, freeing up Kornet/Campbell and Hook to drive or all of them to shoot from the outside off of an in and out.

Additionally, I think I would start Kornet because we need a spark off the bench and that can be Sharane.

Finally, I'd go to a high-low post game and use some double picks to get Vegas and Hook open on the wings.

After Saturday's loss I was thinking doom and WNIT, and then I read the postgame remarks and saw ESPN's latest Bracketology which are all talking like we're still in because our conference is strong and we had a tough schedule.

I guess there's some precedent -- we were only 17-13 in 2005 and made it in with an 8-seed. I think we lost to Georgia at some site in Tennessee in the first round that year.

Oliver,
Thanks for the post.
I was looking for some kind of changeup in lineup or rotation ideas.

Maybe start Carter or Edwards with Hook and Kornet.
rely upon their speed to change the game some.
Bring Campbell off the bench in scoring boost role at the 3.
I like the idea of starting 2 bigs. The 4 guard thing is not working
overall.

Start Kay Kay? At this point, I'd be more likely to start Gibbs.

I might start Griffin, Kornet, Carter, Ellenberg, and Hook with the idea of getting some movement and scoring with Sharane off the bench. Sharane seems to be afraid sometimes recently. But, I'm probably more likely to put Gibbs or Kellogg in the game than Kay Kay right now. If I want something to happen on the interior, it won't be with Kay Kay until she settles down over the summer.

I just thought this picture from the SS.com photo gallery would be fitting here:

Aww, it wont' show up? Well, at this point, Sherri needs to pull every last hair on her head out and start over next season. This year's hair style clearly did not get the job done. OU won a lot more games when her hair was shorter

1 thing that is messing OU up using 4 guards, other teams have that true 6foot athletic forward who is just as fast, but is big and strong and can rebound. Us putting 4 guards on the floor isn't that same advantage speed wise that it was seasons in the past.

Atlanta and Syb, I see why you would want Carter at the one. She's faster/quicker than Hook. But with that line-up you need to move Hook to the 3 -- something Sherri has done but RARELY in the last two years.

I think we need muscle. Syb, I wouldn't mind starting Gibbs -- as long as there are two. At 6-2 Kornet is doing a pretty good job lately rebounding.

Pull Griffith out to the top of the key or free throw line and then let her take the shot (which she can make regularly) or let the winds or Griffith dump it inside. Lots of quick perimeter passes, and let the 1 and 2 (no matter who they are) drive and dump.

But that's all a big change in offense so late in the season. Sherri isn't going to do that.

Well, if we had Griffith, she would do it. He could hit that free throw line jumper every time. But, we have Griffin, and she is best at layups.

I'd leave Morgan at the point. I think I want Carter, Kornet, and Aaryn running around in circles as I pass in to Griffin and back out to Hook until someone gets open with their movement. In--out--in---out----spot shooter.

Come on Syb, it was a typo. You made one in your post too.

The problem with that idea on the weave or motion as you might call it is that is what we've been running all year long.

And Saturday night we couldn't get open from grandma's in wheelchairs using that offense.

As I have thought about what you and Atlanta posted, I think I might change my mind and go this way:

Nicole G.
Kay-Kay
Hook (at the 3)
Ellenburg
Carter

Bring Kornet and Campbell off the bench at the exact same time and sub Durrett and Gibbs for Griffin. Let Kellog rotate in at the 3 or 4 and let Edwards take the 1 after Carter picks up three stupid fouls in her normal first 5 minutes of play.

I would be careful to change a much and I certainly would be very hesitant to move Morgan off the point for any length of time. When she is out the team really gets in an offensive disarray with no direction. Gioya can't play the point as she doesn't appear to have the court vision or awareness which has gotten us in trouble in several games. I think I heard on the radio that Morgan is the fastest straight line runner on the team so speed isn't an issue. Coach has said numerous times she plays at the needed pace. If she went faster nobody would be down the court with her. This by the way will be a huge problem next year. I know we have good ones coming and TT is learning but to loose a 3 year starter at the point who knows the game as well as she does will hurt. But back to the point, would bring TT in on occassion when Vegas or Sharane need a break and move Morgan to the their spot to free her up for shots. She leads us in 3 pt shooting %. She can also help TT being on the court with her.

The issue to me is the 4 spot. We have struggled there all year. Believe and still do today that Nicole K should be playing the 4. Coach went with Gioya to long at the beginning playing her at the 3 and Sharane at the 4. Gioya just wasn't getting it as most freshman don't. Should have kept her on the bench to learn and start Nicole K. Based on her progress I am not sure she has bought in 100% to the work ethic or the coaching.

I also believe part of the team issues everyone talks about and that Morgan and Coach talked about many times was getting everyone to buy in and play and practice hard. That also points to the freshman. This isn't high school. But many freshman don't get it and problems occur as they and their parents think they should be playing which cause issues.

Back to the original question though. We also need the post to understand it is ok to pass the ball back out to an open shooter. We have great ones! That is better than a unorthodox post move that may or may not included some dribbling leading to a turnover or horribly missed shot form 2' away. Lastly would consider starting KK instead of Nicole G but really should have done that sooner.

I still believe the team can make a run in the NCAA and get back to the Sweet 16 and maybe further which would be a great way for the seniors to finish after all they have endured this year.

All good ideas guys.
I was just trying to drive the conversation to what OU could do.
Rather than another rehash of what has gone wrong.
Maybe even a focus on what OU should try to do in the tourney to
help next year. A bowl practice view of this tourney slot so to speak.

With only a few days to prepare for the NCAA, obviously the number of changes to implement are limited. But, if we could cut way down on dribbling and increase movement without the ball, I believe we would find open shooters and easier shots. That might be enough to win us a game or two.
