I have heard multiple players such as Isaiah and Spangler talk about Coach Henson's skill development. It is fantastic to see players progress each year. I hope that Joe C considers naming Henson "Head Coach Designate" if this pattern continues prior to Lon Kruger retiring.

Has the 'Coach-in-Waiting' thing ever worked out for anyone, anywhere? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Henson following Kruger. I just don't like naming the coach before the other one retires.

I also think Henson should be on the short list for HC after Lon leaves. Whether they make that known publicly or not is for the birds.

Kevin Ollie is doing a good job at UCONN. It just comes down to whether they are qualified.

Worked out great for Texas with Muschamp.

Jimbo Fisher?

I don't know if the Marshall job is filled, but he will be a candidate.

A big +1! Totally agree!

With Joe C. is charge, I doubt we will see the "Head Coach In Waiting" soap opera at OU.

The only way it works is if the head coach makes a firm commitment to step down at a certain date. If you have an assistant good enough to be your next head coach sitting there, he's probably going to get other desirable job offers in the interim if your head coach isn't stepping down.

Plus, I'd much rather see him go take a smaller job elsewhere and win there, proving he can manage a program as the CEO and evaluate and recruit talent. Once he's done that we can offer him the head coaching position once it becomes available naturally. Because honestly, I could see Kruger stepping down in two years or ten years, or anywhere in between.

It is always always always best to keep a coaching search / future coach decision out of the public eye. Nothing good comes from a public tipping of the hand.

Joe C is well aware of this.
