Thats some high praise and expectations.
 
I'm sorry but I just don't see how a guy who averaged 4 ppg and 2 rpg is going turn OU into a NCAA Tournament team. I think Jeff is blowing him up because he knows his job is on real thin ice and is looking for any excuse to keep his job after next season.
 
Well if he's as good or better than Jordan Hamilton our turnaround should be both quick and complete next season. The Williams kid at Arizona is pretty good as well. That's solid company for Romero.
 
Osby will make a significant impact.

However, I find it hard to believe he is better than Derrick Williams. That kid is a stud.

Why do I get the feeling Capel is saying stuff like this to get another season.
 
I mean, honestly, I think we'll go back to the NCAAs nextyear...and Osby will be a big reason why. But I forgot that because we don't have any bigs inside and are young this year, we have absolutely no hope for the future.
 
In my opinion OU has at least one legitimate post player in Fitzgerald. His rebounding is below average but his offensive game is above average. Paired with the right center, he can be extremely effective. I really hope Jurick will come to OU. On paper he seems like the perfect fit for Fitzgerald. Rebound, block shots and score some easy buckets in the paint on put backs, defensive break downs etc.

I also think Washington is a capable of bench player. He has rebounded fairly well and should be improved next season. If Goff can give some minutes (and OU gets Jurick or someone like him), I think OU's front line will be much better.
 
OU won't make the ncaa tournament until OU gets a good point guard. I won't believe the hype on Osby until he actually plays in a game for OU.

A post like this gives me hope that maybe next year we can make it back. I question if Osby is as good as Capel is advertising because we've heard similar comments from him about players who haven't yet turned out (Newell: "lockdown defender"; Pledger: "best 3 point shooter I've ever seen", etc.). But, if he is that good and if we can get a big to help rebound and be a defensive presence to help Fitz, and a decent PG who doesn't dribble off his foot every other possession, I think we can be pretty good.

Now, I still think in 2 years when Fitz, Pledger, Osby, Goff and any other JUCO's signed this year graduate we could be dismal again, but we can wait to cross that road when we come to it.

This is my fear as well. A two year turn around means very little to me if we are in this position again afterwards

This is dumb enough I'm not surprised it came from abd and Big Old Booger.


1) If you really think the deciding factor between whether Capel will get another year or not is Romero Osby, you have no clue.

2) The athletic director in charge of men's basketball, according to his bio, was a 4 year letterman for USC basketball and played overseas. If he wants to know how good Osby is and whether to believe Capel's opinion, then I'm quite certain he could just go watch a practice or two and form his own assessment.

3) I'm fairly certain Joe C. could also attend practice, and while he has no background in evaluating basketball players, it's not too hard to see if Osby is dominating practice or not.
 
We will all get to see it for ourselves. And those statements could be attributed to quite a few motives: (1) it is the "truth"; (2) it is to give fans hope in Capel and the program next season; (3) it is to give current players motivation that you guys can hang with players that are good.

The fact is that he didn't do much at MSU, but there are a ton of factors that could have played into that. System, players in front of him, role on team, etc. What I did see of the pre-season practice highlights gave me hope...he was decidedly (like light-years) more athletic than anyone else out there working with him. That said, I also thought that "the captain" would make plays as well (until I saw him bail on screens in person....weak sauce).
 
Can't wait to see him play. I just hate the fact Capel is basically throwing Osby under the bus and making everyones expectation so high right off the bat. Honestly feel bad for Osby having so much pressure.

It would make sense for him to try and juice up current players and players we have not seen yet to inspire confidence in the fans, media, and athletic administration for next season.

I think he will come in, first season, and average something like 14/7.

Almost as dumb as insinuating Capel had a chance to be COY after the 4 game winning streak. :ez-laugh:
