Romero Osby Feature >>> Soonersports.com

Almost as dumb as insinuating Capel had a chance to be COY after the 4 game winning streak. :ez-laugh:

Against two of the worst teams in the league, and not beating anyone who will play in the NCAA Tournament, lol.

Unreal.

It would make sense for him to try and juice up current players and players we have not seen yet to inspire confidence in the fans, media, and athletic administration for next season.

Again, if the administration wants to see how good Osby is, all they have to do is go watch a practice, which I'm sure they have many times. It's a dumb argument.

OU won't make the ncaa tournament until OU gets a good point guard. I won't believe the hype on Osby until he actually plays in a game for OU.
Austin Johnson got us into the NCAAs averaging 8 and 2.

Why do I get the feeling Capel is saying stuff like this to get another season.

My thoughts as well. If Osby produces like he did at Mississippi State, this is going to blow up in Capel's face.

This is very reasonable in my mind.

I'd be extremely happy if he averaged 14/7. Now of course that's not "best player we've seen" numbers, either. I'm optimistic that he'll be a solid addition to the line-up under any circumstance because he at least has what we need, athleticism. Also, and while not quoted, what ouhoops11 is saying is that at any time the administration has the ability to go see what kind of player the kid is or isn't, so the whole "just saying it to keep his job" argument is a little on the soft side.

But as I said above, there could be a bunch of motivations behind it...in fact it might be Joe C. telling him to pimp the future of the program and try to get people excited. Or it could be the truth, the guy played behind two very talented players and didn't blow it up, maybe he wasn't happy with his role...not a personal attack on a kid that played for OU, but the Ryan Humphries (sp?) that I saw playing at ND wasn't close to the kid we saw at OU.

Good example. I watched Ryan in HS...the dude was a beast. Too bad his light didn't shine at OU.

He was a beast, along with that other kid that went to Syracuse. Heck of a BTW team. At least neither of them went to KU (I always get a little sick to my stomach when a great player from Oklahoma goes there).

At this point, there's next to nothing Capel could say that the lynch mob out to get him wouldn't try to spin negatively.

He thinks Osby is our best player and similar to some of the best players in the Big 12, why is that ridiclous or hard to believe? The kid was a top 50 high school recruit that didn't fit well at MSU. Big deal.

AJ would average 14/5/5 or so for this team. Carl Blair wouldnt even get on the court.

AJ's sophomore year he averaged 7/2/2 when our starting lineup was junior Longar, Nate Carter, Michael Neal, and David Godbold. Not exactly a group of world beaters.

Those guys would start right now though.

Isn't it fun when people take a former player and pretend like they were just as good as a freshman as they were as a senior?

And all four of those guys were upperclassmen.
I will go on record right now and say that Fitz, Pledger, and Clark will go down in Sooner lore at or above the level of Neal, Carter, and Godbold when all is said and done.

Now, I still think in 2 years when Fitz, Pledger, Osby, Goff and any other JUCO's signed this year graduate we could be dismal again, but we can wait to cross that road when we come to it.
That is why getting Cezar is so important for OU for me.

You're looking at a lineup of this in 2013-2014
PG JR Cezar Guerreo
SG SR Calvin Newell
SF SR Cameron Clark
PF SR Tyler Neal
C Sophomore Richy Peters
2 other current players, most likely sophomores. I would guess one Guard/Wing (could be a combo or 2/3) then another post.

You then have 6 total open ships to bring in kids.

I would bring in the best juco post you can get, get in on one early for 2013 and make sure he at least a big body at 6'9 and up.

A Point guard/combo (locally, this could be done with Stevie Clark or Jordan Woodard, heck I would try to take both if possible).

Freshman Post or two (is it too much to hope for Julius Randle?).

2/3 type (again locally with Juwan Parker would be awesome).

If Capel keeps the current players on the roster and gets some momentum by Osby being the real deal along with others progressing it seems like a possible outcome. Now I know that is all a long shot with all the turnover and the way stuff has gone down but there is some small hope.

Fitz and Clark, I'll buy.

Pledger...not so much. He reminds me of a Kelley Newton type spot player who should be coming off the bench. Through 2 years, he hasn't had as big an impact as Godbold did at the same point in his career, IMO.

I'd also like to see Clark get a mean streak in him and take over but he is just a freshman. Lots of talent though and seems like a great kid.

Good post. :clap

Doesn't Jurick have 3 years of eligibility? If so, and if we can sign him, he would still be here in 2013-14.
