Sidorakis gives up ship

Good move by Nick, bad move by little Napelon. I wonder how much longer this habit of his will continue.

Obviously he doesnt factor that much into his plans or he wouldnt have allowed him to give up his scholarship...

Wouldn't have "allowed" him?

So Nick comes to Ford saying he will give up his scholarship so that someone else on the team won't have to lose their scholarship and you think Ford has done something wrong by accepting it?

Should he have said no and not renewed someone else's scholarship? I'm sure you'd be singing his praises in that case, right?

guess what...if you dont have a place for the guys you are bringing in, then dont do so...

Easy to say from the cheap seats. There is attrition every year on college basketball teams... guys leave early, transfer, etc. And so sometimes oversigning is necessary to build quality depth.

I wonder if Jeff Capel would have oversigned by 1 or 2 guys last year with the benefit of hindsight?

Pretty crappy move to do to one of your Senior "captains", even if it was meant to be genuine by Nick...

Ford didn't DO anything to Nick.

I would think there were some NCAA issues with this. I wonder if they were going to run him off and this was their way of saving face for him.

Again - explain the logic of planning to "run off" someone who you just named team captain.

But don't get it twisted, in my apex my game was clean. Just ask campbest, I still cross him over on a consistent basis.

Clown statement.

Just to clarify, I have nothing against Sidorakis, he is a fine player and fills his role to a "T". Did I think he was OSU worthy coming out of HS from a skill set? Absolutely not, but he's developed and you have to give him credit for that.

Remember when the OrangePower crowd said Nick Sidorakis was better than Cade Davis?

I'll grant you that... but the nerds/shutins/wannabees have to outnumber the good players... what... 100,000 to 1? :)

Not saying stoops4pres isn't one of the good ones... just sayin' you could understand my skepticism.

:)

... and ours about you.

Jeff, i know you are an OSU fan...but there is no defending this one...

The story in the Oklahoman is a great feel good story about Nick, but it is a total bush league move by Ford...this is a 4 yr senior...period...

Outside looking in maybe, but if Capel did this same move i would be saying the same thing...if you want to over recruit fine, but lets not all sit here and act like this is such a great thing...

by accepting this from Nick he is saying that some unproven player is more important than a great guy and hard worker you have had on your team for 3 yrs...not a solid message to send your team...

They are pretty similar. Nick played a small role on an NCAA Tournament team and Cade averaged 9 ppg on a 12 win awful team.

Yea,

I think Cade is better, but not a huge difference between the two...I think Cade brings more strength and flexibility to play different positions, but other than that they are pretty equal...neither wow's you

Cade Davis is the better player. I agree that they are both role players, but IMO he is clearly the superior of the two.

I mean, Nick Sidorakis is not even a scholarship player!

With the kum-ba-ya, feelgood angle with which this story is written, we don't learn what would have happened if the kid didn't give up his scholarship.

Who would have gotten the boot? And, as has been asked above, why didn't the writer question Ford's judgment in signing more players than he had ships?

The orange-clad spinners in this thread keep pooh-poohing that question, but it's a legitimate one: How did Ford end up in this situation, and what would he have done about it if Sidorakis hadn't bailed him out?

If Sidorakis hadn't bailed out Ford, Sid would have been bailed out...overboard.
The most ruthless, unscrupulous pirates of the old high seas have evolved into the modern day college basketball coaches, like dinosaurs adapted into birds to survive the new climate. Davy Jones' locker is the final resting place for those that aren't needed, Sid just found a loophole to save his coach's face.

I'm shocked at this thread. I really expected this board not to vilify Ford. Complete and utter shock.

Here's a tidbit. Sid wasn't going to be the one let go.

I agree with this. Ford needs to be kicked in his kcid. Sidorakis was a contributor and you pull this stunt. OSU fans please don't even try to spn this as if it weren't something it was, a desperate attempt to add to a roster and not affect APR. I don't care if Sidorakis was worth 20mil, you don't take his scholarship. A scholarship is more than money, it's accomplishment. And this kid has earned the accomplishment of being a D1 athlete.

Sid also graduated early, was named captain and the only way that he could do this was to graduate and enroll in grad school. I sincerely doubt Ford said "Nick, I need you to graduate early." (especially since Nick was on this road before Ford got to OSU.)
