Sidorakis gives up ship

Sid also graduated early, was named captain and the only way that he could do this was to graduate and enroll in grad school. I sincerely doubt Ford said "Nick, I need you to graduate early." (especially since Nick was on this road before Ford got to OSU.)

Not the first kid to graduate early. The rest seem to all keep there scholarships. This is Calipariesque.

I wish some of our players put the team 1st last year. If a couple of our guys had Nick's attitude of team 1st we wouldn't be riding a 9 game losing streak and have lost 3 of the last 4 to the aggies.

1) Don't think for one second that Ford didn't have this in mind knowing full well who his dad is and how much Sids dad is worth.
2)There is a good chance that Sid might start or he might be there 6th man. Ford was very high on him going into last season before he got hurt.
3) Melchionni did this a few years ago at Duke and he was a contributor as well so don't think just cause he gave up his scholarship that he won't be getting serious minutes this year.
4) I think its kind of stupid for Ford to do this b/c I believe that all indications show that he is going to do the same thing and give out more scholarships than he has and the 2 guys at the bottom(Dowell/Shaw) are going to be givin the boot next year.

Morningstar did the same thing, but no one is crying foul over that.

Also, I'm betting you guys would have loved to have Sid on your team last year. A good kid who knows his role, works his butt off, and doesn't complain. Doesn't cause problems off the court and doesn't play with a "me first" mentality.

Personally, I could care less who the better player is between Sid and Cade. They are both Oklahoma kids who doubted their abilities to contribute at their respective universities. Now both are senior captains of their teams, and both should be applauded.

come on people....seriously...the Sidorakis family does a good thing for that program to help them in a crunch and some are gonna badmouth it?

ridiculous.

They are not badmouthing the Sidorkis family or the act, itself. They are badmouthing the situation that created the necessity for the selfless act. I don't know that you can lay this, exclusively, at Ford's feet. Over signing has become part of the culture of college basketball.

If the Sidorakis family is cool with what happened (which they apparently are), it doesn't bother me.

Maybe i'm reading too much into it...but i just dont think it's right...

and if it did happen to Morningstar i would have said the same thing about Self....i dont recall any articles about it being posted on here, maybe i missed it...

Reguardless, to accept an offer like this IMO just sends the wrong message...instead of rewarding guys in your program that do things the right way and stick with it you let them pay their own way...if you can afford it or not, it is not a necessary expense and these coaches should feel guilty about it...

So now some bum Ford recruited that probably wont be on the roster next year gets his ride while Nick's parents have to pay for his...Nice...

and when i say bum, i'm sure one of the guys that is new on scholarship this year wont be back next season...

Jared Shaw is not at the bottom of the list.

How is he not at the bottom of the list when he averaged less than a point a game, a rebound a game, 3 minutes a game, in 17 games? So you're projecting the incoming guys are of less ability than Shaw? Are you saying that Franklin and Dowell will have worse collegiate careers than Shaw? Please clarify.

Also, there are some scenarios that I've experienced with my kids who have played D2 and NAIA ball that will probably work out for Sidorakis. If Sid has filed his taxes individually from his father, he'll get Financial Aid. Also, in NAIA and D2 ball, there are fee waivers and academic scholarships available to players to entice them to attend certain schools. Also, the most likely scenario in my opinion is there will be a sitaution where one of those scholarship kids is going to be looking at his PT around December and decide that OSU is not the place for him to be. That will open up a second semester scholly for Sidorakis. Lastly, the Pilgrim situation isn't settled.

His father is just going to be paying for his apt and food a year earlier than planned. Since Sid is either graduated or almost graduated, his tuition won't be nothing at all.

No one is on Sid here, what he and his family are doing is noble...shows how great a kid he is IMO...one any program would be happy to have on the roster...

Good point. If he's in Grad school, he's probably looking at 6 hours, probably even a paid internship. So in the end, it's not a big deal financially for him to do this. I just think it's a big deal as it pertains to principle. Also, that scholarship money that doesn't go to school goes in his pockets. Alot of people wonder why some athletes get nice cars and things like that when they enroll in school, well when you get a full ride that covers room, board, books, and then some, and you add financial aid and in some cases student loans, you could be looking at having 3K to 7K in your pockets.

Jeff, i know you are an OSU fan...but there is no defending this one...

The story in the Oklahoman is a great feel good story about Nick, but it is a total bush league move by Ford...this is a 4 yr senior...period...

Outside looking in maybe, but if Capel did this same move i would be saying the same thing...if you want to over recruit fine, but lets not all sit here and act like this is such a great thing...

by accepting this from Nick he is saying that some unproven player is more important than a great guy and hard worker you have had on your team for 3 yrs...not a solid message to send your team...

Exactly. And... I'm sure if Nick was the son of a dish washer at Johnnie's his butt would be gonzo.

Shaw is 6'10+, he has also shown to be a sponge when it comes to basketball. He was getting more minutes than Franklin at the end of the season. Dowell or Darrell Williams would have been the odd man out. Not to mention if the Pilgrim situation would have had any legs to it.

If Sidorakis hadn't bailed out Ford, Sid would have been bailed out...overboard.

Still waiting on someone with this line of thought to reconcile the fact that Ford named Sid team captain for this year.

He's going to name him team captain in the spring and then "run him off" in the fall?

Really?

Not to "bedowngrade" Shaw but in what ways has he shown to be a sponge. In mop up minutes? LOL!. I agree, his size is an upside, and Dowell is definetely the player that if I had to choose someone to run off, would be the leading candidate. However, my point wasn't who was at the bottom of the list, but who was clearly in the middle of the pack and nowhere near the bottom when it came to projected pt. OSU is probably still looking at about 3 underclassmen this year who will possibly not be on the roster next year in Franklin, Shaw, and Dowell. I wouldn't be suprised if Dowell is gone by January.

Don't know what argument you're trying to pick. Why run off a solid practice player who contributes and costs the insitution nothing. If OSU is looking to bring in Nash and Leonard, probably cutting dead weight in the SF and PF positions is more advantageous than running off a Senior. OSU fans classic spinners. On your board, they're popping champagne and praising Sidorakis for Ford's dirty pool. I respect OU fan more because when Capel insinuated that he would possibly do the same thing this upcoming year, fans spoke out against it. Some fans still speak out against Ray Willis not being on the roster. Difference between Capel and Ford is Capel never oversigned and then cut players, players left and then he signed other guys.

I don't see a big problem with the situation. Nobody knows what Ford would have done if Sid didn't accept or make the offer. Kudos for Sid for doing it.

So it's a bad thing that OSU fans are thanking the Sidorakis family? It has been stated that the total amount of money the family will pay is not very much. So it's a bad thing that Sid doesn't need his ego stroked. If Ford told Sid that he would have to walkon or he would be kicked off the team then it would be different. Sid was never going anywhere.

Don't give me that crap about OU fans being different than OSU fans. They're all the same some are good some are bad.
