“It’s one of the things that we have to accept. This is a business,” forward Romero Osby said. “I have to admit, it caught me by surprise, but it’s something that happens every day in life. You can be going to work one day and the boss says he found someone else. It’s something we have to take in stride and stay together as a family.”

“Coach Capel was the initial reason I came here, but I’ve fallen in love with the program and the university," Osby said. "This is where I want to be, and this is where I need to be. I haven’t thought twice about staying.”

“I hate to see coach go, but I’m trying to stay ready for whoever the next guy is,” Blair said. “Whenever he comes in, I’ll be ready to work hard for him.”

Wasn't it Chico who seemed to be close to Cam's family? If so, maybe he could give some insight on Cam.

Lots of respect for Osby there (and the other guys too).

Chico hinted a couple of times during the season that somebody in Cam's camp wasn't happy with the way Capel "over coached".

I would guess Cam is probably more wait and see than some of these other guys since he has a redshirt year available and could still have 3 years left to play.

As for Blair's quote...he's a great kid, but if he's starting next year at PG, we are doomed for another losing season.

Well get ready because who are we going to be able to get this late in the game?

I'm leaving that up to the new coach...surely he knows of somebody who can be more effective than Blair.

MOST people thought the same of AJ too when JC took the job, but it's been argued by many (by you too) that AJ was/is far superior to Blair, but in a recent post some people (you included) indicated we could never win the NC in 2008 because we couldn't handle a press and bring the ball up the court.

I'm REALLY confused now...

Just because I argue AJ was superior to Blair doesn't mean he was able to handle the press like Isaiah Thomas.

To me, AJ was a great defender (Blair is not), AJ was a decent to good shooter (Blair is not), and AJ could get the team into the offense before the shot clock was under 15 seconds (Blair struggled with).

Now, Blair is very good at getting to the rim, maybe better than AJ but AJ had long arms and the elite 8 season he got to the rim quite a few times when we needed him. Blair has some parts of his game that are good (get to the rim, good FT shooter, etc.) but he has some huge holes in his game (defense, shooting touch, etc.).

As far as ball-handling goes, AJ wasn't a great ball handler and neither is Blair. I think AJ's height hurt him as a ball handler, but it never seemed to bother Jalen Rose, but I'm not arguing that AJ was comparable to Jalen Rose :).

I will also add that AJ was probably the 2nd best player throughout the entire season in the elite 8 season. WW had some great games, but he disappeared a few times too.

I think you give Blair a second chance with someone else coming to coach. IMO he's good enough to do the job.

You really think so?

We saw flashes at times but then he dribbled it off his foot and there went the flash. :ez-laugh:

I know you're right there...but many act like he was supposed to be a seasoned veteran when he came here. He played what - one season at UNO? JUCO's play 2 years and still normally look like crap warmed over when they arrive.

I don't think Blair is a negative asset yet. He may well be, but let's see what he looks like next season - he may surprise many.

We could do waaaaay worse than Carl Blair. Yes, he had some bad games, but he also had a quite a few good ones and he's still relatively young.

yep

as a matter of fact I was more impressed with Blair than the point that Buzz has in the sweet 16. Blair seems to have a better basketball IQ than that kid (even if worse defensively).

Blair would be much tougher to guard if he could make people respect his outside shot more.

Chico hinted a couple of times during the season that somebody in Cam's camp wasn't happy with the way Capel "over coached".

No offense to whomever said this, but in all honesty how was Capel over-coaching? Cam could of shot it every time down the floor and no one would of cared. Hell, it was encouraged.

Being "over-coached" does not hinder someone from making an effort to rebound the ball. For Clark's physical attributes, his rebounding prowless this year was sad.

The bashing of Blair is way over the top
