Agree with an earlier thread about his health. I bet something comes out when the season is over as he has not looked right since sometime in January imo.

LK said its nothing new... Back is sore but its been sore for a long while. He said at this point in the season everyone has nagging injuries, bumps and bruises all over the place.

He doesn't have the same explosiveness. He hasn't been near as dominant on the glass as he was last year in conference.

I honestly think he has the yips...He's missed several layups since the infamous ISU game-ender...Hope he can shake whatever is in his head! We need him at his best...

Hopefully that big dunk at the end got those yippppppes GONE!

Spangler's offensive production and shooting percentage have taken a noticeable dip since after the ISU game in Norman. I don't for sure whether that's injury related or not, but it's as good an explanation as any.

It's obvious watching him that something is not right. You could an argument that his rebounding numbers should go done due to Thomas but I'm talking about the fact that he is getting beat for boards that he ALWAYS got last year and just looks slow.

He can't get off the floor. Something is not right. He's battling, but he's not himself.

I think it's his hair. His on the court demeanor changed when he had it cut shorter. :D

Seriously, didn't Spangler injure his ankle sometime back? Seems to me he is not quite as quick nor does he jump quite as high since that injury. If his back has been a problem, it could be a combination of the two. He is such a physical player, it's easy to believe that he is just beat up from all of the pounding he takes inside. He's one player who will benefit from time off to let his body heal.

I agree that he looks tentative at times, especially offensively, which could be the result of a back or leg injury. But he's averaging 11 rebounds per game over the last 6. He's playing well in every facet but offense. He's just not nearly as aggressive as he needs to be.

When he and Thomas are both aggressive, we are pretty stout.

I agree. He is worn out again. I think if it was serious (back surgery) that wouldve shut him down.

Someone on Rivals posted that Spangler might hang it up after this year because of injuries. Any legs on this?

This seems utterly ridiculous given what we know about Spangler's toughness. Unless it's a recurring knee issue or a MAJOR recurring back issue (like herniated/bulging disks) that needs surgery ... or head injuries, I can't imagine anything that an offseason wouldn't heal, especially at 22.

He's definitely not right, and I think it's more than just bumps and bruises. I remember him banging his elbow pretty good against Texas at home and it seems his shot has been gone ever since. I also remember him needing ice on his knees a lot during the Iowa st game at home. He just isn't the same player at all. It's too bad because it really hurts this teams chances of making the Final 4. Spangler does all the little important things and he's still battling, just not the same though.

I remember he faded pretty significantly at the end of last season as well, maybe chronic back or knee problems?

There are a lot of really stupid people in this country By definition half are below average and about 50,000,000 are just dumb.

Spangler is dreaming about the NBA and professional basketball. He is not thinking about quitting.

Spangler has some nagging injuries that you get during the season. From what I have been told, he has the nerve in his right arm that is nagging, he has like turf toe on one of his feet, he twisted his ankle the other nite, and he does have some back issues, nothing a few days of rest won't help. You are right Denver, Spangler has admiration of playing beyond college and, everything I know, will be back next year. I have never heard he was even thinking of giving up BB because of injuries.
Hopefully, AB can do some rehab the next few days and get him ready for Michigan State.

This seems to make sense. His shot has definitely disappeared and I remember him jamming his elbow/funny bone on his right arm against Texas in Norman. Seems that's about when his shot disappeared.

Spangler is so undersized he has to work so hard to be competitive that he is going to get beat up. Best thing Lon could do next year is play him about 20 minutes a game in preseason and develop the other guys. Then maybe Ryan can be more effective late in the year. Great kid and great competitor!!!

I think he is still rebounding well, his jump on his shots is not very high, and his shot is off. Could be a muscle injury in leg or a combination of that and the nerve injury in the right arm someone else mentioned.
