What happened to the vaunted ACC?

BIG EAST with 2 teams in the round of 16 is a major College basketball conf ..

likely the 3rd best this season and the 2nd best last season

That's purely a football distinction.

Which is all that most of the sports world cares about.

It's still interesting that 'football' conferences have more teams in the Sweet Sixteen than the ACC or Big East.

you said "Major College"

the BIG East is 1 of the 6 Major College basketball leagues .. .

as in one of the top 3

ACC is the only mid major to get a team in the Sweet Sixteen.

<hope your sarcasm detector is on>

I heard some commentator -- don't recall who it was -- on a sports radio station here in NYC just before the tourney going on and on about the ACC being by FAR the best conference this year and it wasn't even close. And then he went on to slobber on Duke for a while. He mentioned some other conferences, too, but not a word about the Big 12.

Screw you, forgotten commentator, whoever you were. Man, I get so sick of the guys who can't be bothered to follow the action throughout the season, who simply repeat by rote the accepted wisdom year after year. There's nothing better than seeing the ACC fall on its face in March (unless it's seeing the SEC do the same in the fall).

when was the last time the ACC won the football national championship and sent only one team to the basketball sweet 16? has to be never before this year.
