The Blake Show 2015-16

umm Blake gets fouled more than anyone in the NBA.... and it's not even close. I think the dude can complain once in awhile. Westbrook is a joke! I do believe Blake has a solid chance at the MVP this year and he deserves it. He can do everything for his team.

Come on now, you still talking about me. I'd be perfectly happy to discuss those points, but I disengaged from the conversation as per request.

How does Blake look this year? Decent, I suspect, not that it will matter.

Decent? C'mon man! And how will it not matter? What Blake has done for that franchise is nothing short of miraculous. Decent. Ha Surely you jest. He is elite in every sense of the word (including for begging for star treatment!).

Welcome to the board. Strong intro

Decent? Haha. Thanks for the laugh.

Sorry, I was joking around. "Won't matter" was from a thunder centric point of view, as in good luck getting out of the west.

Those of you that say he has looked decent or is whining too much need to watch the games this year. Funny how OKC fans loved Chris Paul when he played for OKC Hornets but hate him now.

Classic Thunder fan move.

I guess I must be really slow because I still haven't figured out how six years equals a lifetime.

I've been to one Thunder game, a playoff game at that, and if by value you mean a constant cacophony so absurdly loud that I couldn't turn to my father, who was sitting right next to me, and have even a brief conversation, then I think I'll pass and buy what OU's selling instead. And it wasn't the fans who were so loud, it was relentless piped-in nonsense resembling a "morning zoo" radio program. Movie clips, exhortations to cheer, thumping piped-in music cranked up to 11, giveaways -- anything they could think of to distract those in attendance. It was easily the worst spectator experience in all my years of attending sporting events. I'll take a game at LNC any time -- every time -- over that.

meh. you are letting you bias for OU hoops to cloud your judgement of a playoff atmosphere.

A tight playoff game in OKC is the best bball atmosphere you will find. Yes the adds get annoying but the actual game atmosphere is great.

I will add that when the LNC is rocking against a rival, it matches this atmosphere. But that is few and far between

This, if Blake played for okc the fans would claim he is the toughest guy in the NBA who takes the biggest beatings and never gets calls

Well yeah. That is what fans do. Of every team. Everywhere

Not at all. I was very excited to be at the game and I was pulling hard for the Thunder. OU didn't even enter into the equation. But all the extraneous nonsense and the extreme volume of the piped-in entertainment -- I'm not exaggerating, my father and I couldn't even talk during the game, and it was not the fans who were drowning us out -- made it really a unpleasant experience. I was glad the Thunder won, but was happy to get out of there. The whole experience felt as though it were aimed at 12-year-olds.

I don't pull for the Thunder any more, I'll admit. The persistent hypocritical bashing of Blake (from even some of my friends and family) has turned me against that team. Which is too bad. Having grown up in OKC and not really having an NBA team that I pull for regularly, it would be a natural fit.

I had much the same experience on the one night I saw the Hornets play in OKC.

Over time, I've grown to appreciate or at least accept the sounds during the game. It engages a wider range of people and creates new fans. The Thunder sold out last night for the 120th something time in a row. That's 18,000 people in OKC for basketball. The place, as usual, was packed. Make no mistake, the real draw is the great, great level of play. But, the sound plays a part in the overall entertainment and adrenaline rush. It brings in people that aren't particularly basketball fans and makes fans out of them.

Is there a rule against sounds during play in college? Seriously, is there? It started in the NBA, not as an idea from the league. It started with one team doing it. They allowed it to continue and now all the teams to it.

So, I say to OU. Be the first. Be like Oregon with the fancy uniforms. Be a Baylor and build a competitive power out of notoriety. The purists will complain. That's good. It will keep the traditional powers from doing it early on. Maybe the purists will go away. That's good. The purists aren't filling the arena anyway.

And, Bigtime. My purpose here is not to display my unhappiness with OU, although I'll admit, I'm not a fan of the athletic administration or their old fuddy duddy ways. I remain a fan and I want to see basketball thrive again at OU like it used to. I sat in that arena the last 3 or 4 years with maybe 3,000 to 4,000 people in attendance for all but a few high profile games. On TV last year, the stands still look relatively empty. Look, I'll go away. I haven't posted here in several years. I don't intend to be an antagonist. Attending the scrimmage drew back in. It might as well have been a basketball camp. It was open to the public, but I guess they have long since decided no one would come. They made no attempt to really promote it. OU trotted out an autographed basketball as part of the "entertainment". About 10 people signed up.

Be the first, OU. Embrace change. Embrace the event as entertainment, pack the place, bring in recruits because of the notoriety, be the first, be the best again.

Blake Griffin's sophomore year, the lowest Butts in the seats attendance was 9.6k for a Wednesday 6 pm game against Nebraska. Every other conference game had over 10K with nearly every one being over 11k. The key is winning games. Win and they will come.

I think we will see a spike an attendance this year but unfortunately it will be delayed until conference season.

I am glad you were drawn back in. I hope you will go to some games. Believe me when I say that the last thing "purists" like me want is to dissuade others from going to games. I understand that we need people like you to come back because there is really only a core of 3.5-5k true, come-rain-or-shine OU basketball fans out there. But, you are going have to temper expectations if you are going to let the 10 am scrimmage a couple of Saturday's ago make you "give up" again on this program. Just come to some games again this year. It will be a fun product to watch. The team will be good. The students will make it fun during conference season.

Didn't mean to come off the way I did. I just get defensive about Blake Griffin. :D

no offense, but you sounds like somebody in their 60s and would prefer a wnba atmoshpere

So you root against your hometown team b/c some fans don't like a player from a different hometown team?

Seems a bit ironic no?

Wait a minute. I'm about as "rain-or-shine" as they come. I've probably spent more time inside the LNC than anyone on this site. With 42 home games a year and the drive up to OKC, I just couldn't do both. I had to make a choice between the two. I had more fun in OKC. My perspective is about how to fill the LNC again. I agree a high level competive team will do that, but if OU would be innovative, it would help build the program.

if you chose the Thunder you are not a "rain-or-shine" fan .. you actually are not much of an OU basketball fan ..

and yes it is against NCAA rules to play music during the live ball action ..

and fyi it is not hard to do both .. I go to almost every Thunder game .. except when the Thunder games interfere with OU basketball home game and most of the time even when it will interfere with watching OU basketball road games ..

Thunder fans are the biggest homer fans in sports. I started out a Thunder fan but cheer against them every game. They are like fans of pro wrestling, every player on the opposing team is a bad guy. Their radio announcer is worse homer than the osu football announcer. I could go on and on but I won't. Don't watch them and don't read any articles in the paper about them anymore. Loved it last year when they missed the playoffs. ha ha
