I think it was a forgone conclusion that Lon would bring his entire staff from UNLV and there may not be room for a guy like Terry.

But, listening to his presser and then, in particular, his interview just moments ago with James Hale on KREF, I am beginning to think that Terry is a REAL possibility to join this staff and I think that would be big time.

He mentioned that they believe they will bring a couple of assistants from UNLV but also look to add to that "someone with strong ties to Oklahoma and the University as well as the state of Texas." He did add, "and we have no idea who that will be" but I think you'd probably say that anyway before someone has inked a deal.

Not sure how strong Evans' ties to Texas are, but I have read (albeit on this board) that his AAU ties are pretty strong. The other qualifications listed are obviously slam-dunk qualifications that Terry possesses.

Talk about a good coaching, marketing and fan support move - hiring Evans would do all of those!

Sorry, not a "forgone conclusion" but more a thought many people had.

Just wanted to clarify. Proceed...

I really hope they end up getting Terry as an Assistant. This would be perfect.

If Lon thinks Evans would really add something to the staff i'm all for it.

That is the key colston...they have to have chemistry and be "all in".

I'd hate for Terry to be the "Backup QB" if you know what I mean. I love the idea of him coming and providing a real strong tie to the University and the surrounding area, but I worry what the chemistry would be like on the coaching staff.

I'll trust Lon to make the decisions that benefit the team and the program the most, though. He's a proven coach that knows how to manage a team.

Yeah, NP, that was my concern when the possibility was first brought up, too. But then, when I heard of Kruger and Evans' prior relationship and the excitement that Terry had for Lon to take the job and even his expressed INTEREST in being an assistant, it almost makes me think that this very unlikely situation could actually work out - only b/c it seems that Terry is pretty humble towards the idea and Lon is secure in who he is as the head coach. Who knows? I have no connection or personal knowledge of either one of them - just reading quotes and proposals like everyone else. A situation like that would have to be almost unprecedented (someone seeking the job from outside the current staff joining the staff of the new coach as an assistant).

Seems like it could be a great fit. But, whatever coach Kruger decides, I'm for it.
