This is Cool!!!

so are we talking about the bottom wall on the floor or the wall that seperates the lower and upper bowls?

Pretty sure they are both taller than me. i'm only 5'7" though.

I remember they wouldn't let people stand on the top riser on the floor b/c it would block the peoples view. but taking a step down of about 6" was fine.

second, the wall is probably around 8 feet on the north and south ends. i know, because i sit right behind it in LS3. they may look shorter now with the media and students being elevated. but they aren't 3-4 feet. the walls that use to be on the east and west side were 3-4 feet, but they have done away with those in the renovation effort to bring fans closer.

These are the walls I was referring to. Honestly, I've only sat behind the goals maybe 2 or 3 times, and I was in the upper section then. But, I do remember, now that you point this out, the walls behind the goals are taller than the sides.

When I was a student, the student section started at mid-court and went all the way to behind the goal. Is this no longer the case?

So, they did remove the walls on the sides?

The last game I attended was 2006 when we played Alabama. Before that, I hadn't been to a game in the LNC since 2000 because we moved away and I was never back in Norman during basketball (or football) many years.

So, in that case, the walls behind the goals need to be taken down and they need to make the seats go all the way behind the goals.

I am talking about the bottom wall on the floor, have i been talking about the wrong wall? If so I apologize

I was talking about the wall on the sides, but had forgotten about the walls behind the goals. They are indeed 8 foot. Like I said, in my day the students sat from halfcourt to behind the goals and I was always on the sides because I got there early and stayed late. :)

Weren't you getting onto another poster claiming that he hadn't ever been to LNC?

What does that have to do with anything? I have freely said many times I haven't been inside the LNC since 2006. Prior to 2000, I was a season ticket holder for many years starting with my parents season tickets since the sooners played in McCasland.

I guess it just goes over your head

I enjoyed Top Daug when I was in school but I'm pretty sure I wasn't enjoying the costume as much as I was the guy inside who was so entertaining (think his name was Ken-something?).

Bringing back the costume is meaningless unless they have a talented individual who knows how to bring it to life in a non-goofy manner.

The sooner schooner became the official mascot in 1980. I gotta feeling that if it was taken away after 20+ years a whole lot of people would be pissed off about it.

Just to clarify, the schooner was never used for basketball in any way shape or form, as you probably know. The schooner has only ever been used for football, but it's not like you have a mascot for baseball, softball, golf, tennis, soccer, etc., or at least they didn't used to.

The first basketball mascot I can remember was Top Daug, and as somebody else just mentioned if they do bring him back, they need to find the guy or someone like him who used to do it so very well.

Suggestion: bring back the fat guy that used to run circles around the arena carrying a huge OU flag. Make him the mascot.

I used to love that remote control blimp that would drop worthless coupons.

I thought you wouldn't call him fat? :ez-laugh:

I agree with you, although, I think he now attends the Thunder games. The only thunder game I've attended was on New Years Eve and a big fat guy, who looked like the guy who used to attend the OU basketball games, was behind one of the goals. When the Hawks were shooting FT's, he would try to distract the shooter. It was hilarious. He looked just like him.

At one point didn't it drop actual money? I think they were 1 dollar bills. lol

At one time a few years back I swear there was a fat kid that would stand behind the goal with the student group and he would take off his shirt to distract the opposing team when shooting free throws. No offense if he posts here, but he had some tremendous moobs. Finally the students actually started lifting him up on their shoulders and raising him up and down while a guy was trying to shoot free throws. This could be seen on television, so somebody from OU went over and made them stop.

The dude at the Thunder game had moobs that would make rival Dolly Parton. Those things were huge and gross.

No offense if the guy posts here, though.
