He had the best shooting percentage on the team from behind the arc.
I don't understand any doubt of Bienemy... He showed plenty for a true freshman. He appears to be the real deal.
He showed signs of being a good player in the future.
What/when is the "real deal"?
He averaged 4.9pts/game last season.
My idea of the "real deal" is averaging 15pts/game.
Will he be the "real deal" this season, or beyond?
Most true freshman only show flashes... he showed plenty of those. I expect 10ppg out of him next year.
Didn't someone on here say that the coaching staff expects his role to change some, particularly in the looking to score department? I agree i'm as excited about Bienemy as anyone. I, too, wondered why he didn' try to score more.
Buddy was kind of the same deal his freshman year, too. He has never been a point guard, but I remember him focusing on defense and getting lots of assists and rebounds the first part of the year(besides the UTA game I was at where he went off a little). Then he unleashed the scoring his soph year on. Maybe that's what will happen with Jamal.
Doo, Manek, Reaves, Harmon and Bienemy would be OU's version of the GSW's death lineup. I can see OU going to this against certain teams and during certain stretches. If Doo can extend his game to the 3-point line (like when he was a FR) it would give the Sooner 5 shooters and allow switching D 1-5. Sort of like wedding present china - not for every day use, but special occasions
Oh it will definitely be for every day use. That is in all likelihood the starting lineup, not just something they use occasionally. If any of those five aren't starting, it means another of the newcomers is even better than expected.

I agree with your take about Doo on another thread. But any player starting ahead of this guy better be prepared to match his intensity or they could be looking over their shoulder at the bench the entire season.
Even if this player doesn’t start, he will play and play a lot.

Did anyone doubt Mcgusty was going to be all conference after his freshman year?
Thought the guy wasn’t going to average under 15 his last 3 years. Biggest disappointment maybe out of all of Capel’s guys. At least Lon benched him & processed him.

The all-time top 10 scorers in OU history, plus a couple of other "notables" and their PPG as freshmen:
Wayman Tisdale 25 ppg
Buddy Hield 8 ppg
Jeff Webster 6 ppg (RS after only 3 games - 18 ppg as a redshirt frosh)
Tim McAllister 16 ppg
Darryl Kennedy 8 ppg
Stacey King 6 ppg
Ryan Minor 5 ppg
Hollis Price 7 ppg
Alvan Adams 22 ppg
Eduardo Najera 7 ppg
Blake Griffin 15 ppg
Trae Young 27 ppg
All of the guys listed above were the "real deal". And only 5 of them (6 if you count Webster) even averaged double figures as a freshman.
So I don't think you can look at Bienemy's 5 ppg as a freshman and conclude he isn't the real deal.
Who did that?
You said your idea of the real deal is averaging 15 ppg. i took that as 15 ppg as a frosh. If I misunderstood your meaning, I apologize. Very few frosh ever average 15 ppg.
