Daze reported that TJ didn't make the trip down to Denton on Saturday to participate in the scrimmage. I have heard that he is still having post-concussion symptoms at this time.

I wonder if he is going to redshirt this year? I mean, the concussion happened in September if I recall correctly and he is still having issues. Add to the fact that his ankle is still not 100% and it makes me wonder if redshirting might be his best option.

It is sad because I think he could be a guy that could come in and give us some good defensive minutes this year.

Thoughts?

I doubt it. Even if he's out for two months, he'd still be available for conference play. Given last year's performance and the overall lack of star power on this year's team, Capel may also be feeling some pressure, in which case he'll be pulling out all the stops. Why redshirt a player if you think there's a chance he could help you now and you may not be there next year?

Even without the possibility of Capel feeling the heat, if Taylor can help for a couple months, he's worth playing this year.

If he can contribute, I don't think Capel can afford to redshirt him because OU is not going to have a particularly strong year. Additionally, I think TJ having experience is important for next year. Therefore, I would prefer to see him play this year. Even 10 minutes a game would make him a much better player next season.

Yeah, you're right. I just feel bad for the kid. Breaking his ankle in three places was bad enough, and now he gets hit with what appears to be a pretty severe concussion. Hope he catches a break soon.

No point in redshirting him if he can contribute some in conference.

Okay, I just got solid word on TJ. He's redshirting this season because of the concussion. Source is very reliable and close to the situation.

First and foremost, that's not good for TJ. As we all know, head injuries are not to be taken lightly. He's been through a lot the last two years with injury. Though it can't be easy on him, I know he will make the most of the situation - from what I know of him, that's just who he is.

As for OU, I do think he would have eventually found himself being a substantial contributor this season. His game and his body are well suited to the Big12. I guess in the short-term, his not being available will hurt the program, but in the long run we can look forward to a good long run with him on the floor.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

Edit: Upon receiving further info, it is NOT definite that he will redshirt, but it's significant enough that it has been talked about.

Bummer.

I just had a feeling that this might happen. Head injuries of this magnitude are not to be taken lightly (especially given what we know now in the medical realm and the media attention that has been recently given to this topic).

Hang in there, TJ. Get well and get ready for next year!

Wow, out for the season with a concussion? I can't say that I have heard of that. That sucks for OU this year, but even more for TJ.

i think people are realizing how dangerous they can be. Whats his name on the twins was out for several months b/c of one.

Latest word I got was it was NOT a definite redshirt situation. I made an edit to my original post with the original input I received, so I want to make sure everyone gets the newest update. The tone of the info I got most recently sounds like there's a chance he will still play this season. Of course, like anything, all depends on how he responds to the concussion.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Head injuries are just something you don't want to fool around with. Hope TJ can play this year, but his health is most important. Speedy recovery.

I think redshirting is good for him.

Really if his concussion is this serious then I agree. We don't have any real information of course but to hold someone out this long there must be lingering effects. Brains aren't replaceable so lets hope he heal completely.

I'm a huge Twins fan and Justin Morneau suffered a concussion in early July and missed the rest of the season including the playoffs which happened in October. So, it could happen if he isn't having "normal" days.
