Transfer Portal Thread

Totally disagree. When was the last offseason we didn't have someone leave, even before the portal took off? How many of you anticipated this time a year ago, or even three months ago, that Gibson would leave to go play for one of the worst teams in the country, or that Harkless would bail to go play at UNLV? I would happily bet anyone on this board that we will have at least one non-senior leave after the season.

Fill every scholarship every year. Unless you only have total bums for options..

Players that dont play/develop you can kindly show them the door and since they don't have to even sit out at all (still as of now), no one is even losing out on anything. Kids will leave every single year as is. Fill them all

Everyone is in position to leave via the portal.

I disagree.

Sherfield - Already transferred twice. He MIGHT leave for the NBA, but he is NOT transferring again.

Bamasile - Already transferred twice. He is NOT transferring again.

Godwin - Already transferred once. Unlikely to transfer again one year later.

The 4 freshman - Any of them COULD transfer, but man, it seems more likely they'd stick around. Certainly don't expect to lose multiple of them after one year.

J. Groves / Hill - Don't see either transferring.

Noland - I guess he could, but right now he is projected to start. I guess outside of Cortes, he is MAYBE the next most likely, but I really thought if he were going to leave, it would be this year.

So what, legit transfer options would be one of the freshman and maybe Noland, outside of Cortes?

Maybe Godwin doesn't end up being good enough and transfers. Maybe one of the freshmen gets home sick. Maybe Jacob decides to go somewhere closer to home after Tanner graduates. Maybe Hill decides to do what Manek did and opt for a change of scenery for a fifth season of college. I don't want any of these things to happen, but the odds that no one leaves are probabky 1 in 100.

Godwin is a walkon

Boulder, he had 2 to 3 guys running at him every time he touched the ball in the Final Four. Hard to fault him for shooting badly in those games.

One school: Tech

It irritates me to no end that Texas Tech is now whipping us for every college basketball recruit that both schools want. I can't believe it's gotten to this point. NIL NIL NIL I get it, I hate it. Why can't OU play the game too? Ridiculous..

Tech was in the pay-to-play game before it was legal, I've long felt.

Prolly bc tech has had recent success in bball (prolly 2nd most money-making sport) and is likely pushing the chips all-in. Esp now that they lost that coach, to try and brand itself a basketball school.. whereas ou is focusing on pushing in chips for football (the king sport of college). I wish we could do both, and maybe we will at some point. But for the short future, I'm sure ou will be focusing almost entirely on football because $$$

I agree with both of you. The last recruit I remember beating them for was when Beard was there and Kruger was here and it was Victor Iwuakor. I remember Carlin H commenting on some shady dealings by Tech in his recruiting. Not overtly, but everyone knew who it was.

I think we are done in the portal. It’s gotta be a real impact player at this point, which I don’t see left.
By the time the conference season rolls around:
Starters: Sherfield, Bamisile, Noland, Hill, and T. Groves- same five all year except when injuries, illness, Covid happen. J. Groves is the sixth man and comes in for Hill or T. Groves. Uzan spells the three guards. We will play eight, but who plays will depend on matchups, foul trouble, good week of practice, etc. Solid 20 win team, around 4, 5, or 6 in the Big 12 and will win a first round NCAA tournament game. Our first seven have to stay healthy!!!!!

Based on what? Not like they have a history of great recruiting in either of the big sports (football or mens basketball).

Based on my gut feeling. I've acknowledged many times that I have no solid evidence that Beard was dirty, but I believe he was/is and others have expressed the same opinion.

It’s not about what Texas Tech is doing, it’s about what OU and Porter are not doing.

“not doing” is myopic.

Not trying to do?
Not trying hard enough to do?
Not given the support to do?
Not able to do for whatever reason?
Coming within 1% of succeeding to do?

Cheating/dirty business?

I think some of you need to accept the fact that what used to be cheating isn’t any more. I have no idea if OU is doing everything they are allowed to do. It would be disappointing if they aren’t.
