Transfer Portal Thread

He's a guy I could see come in as a walk-on and work on his body to the point where he can contribute as an upperclassmen.

I fully agree. As a walk-on, I love it.

I think the kid has potential. I liked him in high school (not as an OU scholarship player).

It sounds too good to be true that Godwin would walk on to ou. Does he have a full scholarship at wofford?

Maybe he is ok being a preferred walk on with a good chance to earn a scholarship. Getting him as a walk on would be a really good addition IMO.

Another coach is in Orlando watching Team Griffin (etc). Moser, maybe. He mentioned Orlando in an interview.

From March 23rd

Sam Godwin, Wofford big man, entered the portal.

Why is that interesting? Two reasons...

1. He played high school basketball at Southmoore (Moore, OK). A lot on here will, obviously, remember the name.

2. He picked up a quick follow from Clayton Custer tonight.

Godwin is 6'9 230 lbs. In only 14 ish minutes per game, Godwin averaged 6 ppg & 3 rpg while shooting 62% from the field. His best game was probably 17 points & 5 boards vs Chattanooga (quick look).

Coming out of HS, he had offers from Wofford (duh), Tulsa, Southern Illinois, North Texas, and Army (D1s that is).

FWIW, not saying it's that likely that he'll end up at OU...no idea, yet.

I'll add him to the OP in a little while.

Gained:

Oklahoma:

F Sam Godwin - walk-on
'21-22 Stats: 6.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 62 FG% (only 13 mpg)
Transferred from: Wofford
YOE: 3

I'm sure a "walk-on" at OU is very good for the kid. Yes, no $ for rent or school, but my daughter walked-on the KU row team and had gear, food (the athlete's cafeteria), pharmacy etc ....sure OU does the same or more.

They’ll be some NIL money to make up for no scholly. PWO. Think good chance it goes scholly in the future.

He's the kind of guy you want on the end of your bench. Great skill set, hard worker, and can contribute as he develops his body. Important that we don't have to give up a scholarship this year for him but can give him one as we find some roster stability over the next couple of years.

figured, with his buzz, he'd end up at a bigger school. Oh well.

It probably says more about me than him, but I've never even heard of Bryant.

What???

They were in the tourney this year.

How can you not know if this Smithfield, RI institution?

In all seriousness, I know a lot about Bryant because my Dad is an alumn— I’ve even been on campus. Their basketball program has recently really jumped up in class— first from D2 to D1 and now they are moving up a wrung to a different conference. It’s a really small program still with facilities that would hardly blow you away, but it’s probably got an up arrow as far as smaller D1 programs go. First Tourney appearance this past year.

Isn't Kiss graduating? Could be misremembering. Damn good player. High volume scorer.

Busted!

I'll admit that I don't pay as much attention when OU doesn't make the tourney. I tend to tune in in the second half whenever a possible upset is brewing.
