Right, because the NIT is such a great accomplishment...:clap
Look, I don't mind an NIT bid every once in a while, but I'd consider going to two or three NITs in a row or regularly as bad as a few losing seasons...NEITHER should be the norm at either school...
Also, Jeff Capel 7, OSU 5
Jeff Capel 5, Travis Ford 3
All this while having 3 of the worst basketball seasons in 30 or 40 years in Norman.

I don't consider a NIT season, one where they had a shot of going to the NCAA tournament pretty late in the season
That OSU team had a pretty good PG in Eaton (no matter what you think about him, he was a pretty PG by the time he graduated) and one of the better players in the country in Anderson...that team had some pieces.
We are talking about Ford Versus Capel.
Ford 4 Capel 4
Yeah, he's not the second coming of Eddie Sutton that's for sure. I just don't see Ford ever leading the Cowgirls to the Final 4.
Capel had one horrid year (last year) in which he midjudged character or lacked discipline or both. Everything last year affected this year greatly. In my mind I was expecting worse results for this year at the beginning of the season. Most all of the really good talent we had left after last year and that's what made this season such a struggle. I think we also forget that Capel was what, the 2nd youngest D1 head coach when we hired him? He had some learning to do and we really couldn't afford that kind of 'learning' at a program like ours. I was really expecting for Joe to give him another year but I really believe 'donors' went to Boren and Joe and pretty much forced their hand. I may be wrong but it's just the feeling I get. AD's are not perfect and neither is Joe but there's not another AD in the country I'd rather have. His successes far outweigh his failures. He and Boren realize the importance of 'getting it right this time' and I have no doubt he will. I think we'll have a coach either right before the Final 4 or right after.
Boomer Sooner!
Sorry in 2008-2009 it was OU winning 2 of 3. In 2009-2010 it was a split, 1-1. And this year is was a split, 1-1.
So, that's 4 Capel and 3 Ford.

1/26/09 Hell-hole 89-81 OU
3/7/09 Norman 82-78 OU
3/12/09 Oklahoma City 70-71 OSU
1/11/10 Norman 62-57 OT OU
2/13/10 Hell-hole 76-97 OSU
3/10/10 KC 67-81 OSU
2/5/11 Hell-hole 75-81 OSU
3/5/11 Norman 64-61 OU
Very I think Capel learned his lesson on judging character (which ultimately lead to his demise), and wherever he lands next I think he will put those lessons to good use.
"And there should have been absolutely no way that OSU team should have even come close to them, let alone beat them when Griffin was being guarded by Anthony Brown and Marshall Moses." Agreed.
It's 4-4...
Which further enhances the point that at this juncture Ford isn't drastically better than Capel, as some other posters previously mentioned.
We are talking about Ford Versus Capel.
Ford 4 Capel 4
The first 3 years of Capel were a lot better than the first 3 years of Ford. Capel backed those 3 years up with back to back losing seasons. Capel has had 3 seasons far worse than anything Ford has had at OSU, but one season far better than anything Ford has done.
Lets see how Ford performs the next couple of years. I think in 2 more years we will have a much better idea of what kind of coach Ford is.
