Travis Ford to Arkansas?

Also, Jeff Capel 7, OSU 5

Jeff Capel 5, Travis Ford 3

All this while having 3 of the worst basketball seasons in 30 or 40 years in Norman.

Right, because the NIT is such a great accomplishment...:clap

Look, I don't mind an NIT bid every once in a while, but I'd consider going to two or three NITs in a row or regularly as bad as a few losing seasons...NEITHER should be the norm at either school...

Ford hasn't done that though, Sean Sutton did and that (combined with personal issues) is what got him fired. I don't consider a NIT season, one where they had a shot of going to the NCAA tournament pretty late in the season as bad as losing seasons where the chance for an At-Large bid was out the window by New Year's.

If Ford is in the NIT again next year, then I'm sure the discontent will be at the levels it was for Capel a month ago.

I agree, this years NIT better be Fords last for a while. That said Capel didn't even make the NIT 3 out of 5 years. Not even making the NIT should never be accepted.

HUH???? If Colorado didn't get in, OSU wasn't CLOSE to getting in, but I will agree it appeared that way...

That OSU team had a pretty good PG in Eaton (no matter what you think about him, he was a pretty PG by the time he graduated) and one of the better players in the country in Anderson...that team had some pieces.

Exactly. And OU beat them twice already that year... Don't see how it was somehow inexplicable that Ok. State beat them the 3rd time they played. Especially considering the fact that its generally difficult beating a good team 3 straight times in one season, compounded by it being OU's rival.

Sorry in 2008-2009 it was OU winning 2 of 3. In 2009-2010 it was a split, 1-1. And this year is was a split, 1-1.

So, that's 4 Capel and 3 Ford.

Yeah, he's not the second coming of Eddie Sutton that's for sure. I just don't see Ford ever leading the Cowgirls to the Final 4.

Capel had one horrid year (last year) in which he midjudged character or lacked discipline or both. Everything last year affected this year greatly. In my mind I was expecting worse results for this year at the beginning of the season. Most all of the really good talent we had left after last year and that's what made this season such a struggle. I think we also forget that Capel was what, the 2nd youngest D1 head coach when we hired him? He had some learning to do and we really couldn't afford that kind of 'learning' at a program like ours. I was really expecting for Joe to give him another year but I really believe 'donors' went to Boren and Joe and pretty much forced their hand. I may be wrong but it's just the feeling I get. AD's are not perfect and neither is Joe but there's not another AD in the country I'd rather have. His successes far outweigh his failures. He and Boren realize the importance of 'getting it right this time' and I have no doubt he will. I think we'll have a coach either right before the Final 4 or right after.

Boomer Sooner!

Very good points you bring up.

No doubt that Capel dug himself in the mess that was the '09-10 season... And if anything, I felt we exceeded expectations this year. It was just the horrid mess that was the '09-10 season was too much to overcome.

I think Capel learned his lesson on judging character (which ultimately lead to his demise), and wherever he lands next I think he will put those lessons to good use.

2009-2010 OSU won 2 of 3. They played the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. I don't think a lot of OU fans watched that game though.

It's 4-4...

Ahhh, sorry. Missed the KC game in 10. Still not too bad for playing against and 'up and coming' coach Ford!

I agree. He's still VERY young!

"And there should have been absolutely no way that OSU team should have even come close to them, let alone beat them when Griffin was being guarded by Anthony Brown and Marshall Moses." Agreed.

Curious osujeff, but I remember you agreeing with me not too long ago on the point that it wasn't too surprising that Ok. State beat OU the 3rd time they played eachother. What changed your mind all of a sudden and caused you to flip-flop?

Ford 4 Capel 4

So which coach is the better coach? We can talk ifs and butts all day long but with a good sample of games to compare it looks like they are both pretty well on-par with the other.

The first 3 years of Capel were a lot better than the first 3 years of Ford. Capel backed those 3 years up with back to back losing seasons. Capel has had 3 seasons far worse than anything Ford has had at OSU, but one season far better than anything Ford has done.

Lets see how Ford performs the next couple of years. I think in 2 more years we will have a much better idea of what kind of coach Ford is.

I wouldn't disagree with you at all.
