If we pay Capel $2-3 mil to go away and then hire Johnny Mid-Major from East Belmont Tech for 650K a year?
 
I am not looking for some big name to be hired ... we need a particular style.
 
Probably extremely frustrated; however, if we bring up Terry Evans under that type of circumstance then I would at least be optimistic. He brings youth and a certain style back to OU. Moreover, I think that he could get a guy like Jeff Webster on staff to help recruit.

Remember, TU got Nolan Richardson from a JUCO, KSU essentially got Frank Martin from AAU, heck, we got Sheri from a HS didn't we? To reiterate, if it is a young guy, I sort of want Terry Evans to get a long hard look.
 
If its a young up and comer isnt that basically Capel 5 years ago? Does this where everyone thinks the hire is gonna go? We need a name and a particular style to give us some buzz and an identity.
 
Terry Evans actually looks like a great fit. Although his inexperience at this high a level scares. Just like Jeff's inexperience probably hurt him at OU.
 
I certainly like Terry Evans. Heck, he'd probably make a good coach somewhere in D1. But it won't be at OU.

You CANNOT win consistently with some open, offensive oriented style in our conference without bringing in the top recruits. The reasons are numerous and reserved for another discussion. Suffice it to say Billy did it because he essentially snuck up and overwhelmed others with athleticism and fitness - and some nice JUCO recruiting. Notice how noone successfully uses his style today? It's not a coincidence.

You hafta focus on defense first. It travels well, levels the talent playing field, and gives you a chance in any game. Combine that with getting top athletes (which OU can do) and you have a decent formula.

I bet this is exactly what happens. OU is not going to bring in a high-profile coach because so many of them have already been in trouble with the NCAA. The people who think Billy Gillespie is coming are going to be dissapointed.

I bet somebody like Blaine Taylor from Old Dominion comes in. He'll get here and be stuck trying to deal with other schools negatively recruiting against him due to possible NCAA sanctions, he'll have poor fan support, but instead of getting Blake Griffin and winning 30 games a couple of years in, we'll just be stuck at 8th place in the Big 12 and people will be on Joe C for hiring him.

I would be very happy if we hired Blaine Taylor.
 
i dont care if the guy is a mid-major guy as long as he can actually coach.. that would be an improvement
