That the last time we went through the basketball search said we were close to getting Jim Beilein but we had problems with the buyout and we hired Capel?

As I recall, we may have been down to Turgeon, Beilein, and Haith? Anyone else someone remembers?

I remember some poster named bulldog something or other on the oui board driving people crazy with cryptic hints and then finally naming Beilein.

I guess that was before the existence of this board. I was trying to recall who might have been our finalists after Joe's last exhaustive search and how those candidates are now doing. I believe Haith was on that short list at the end.

I thought the Big East coach rumored to be a strong candidate back then was Jay Wright at Villanova.

Jay Wright would have been an absolute homerun hire back then, now, and anytime in the future. With that said he isn't leaving the east coast and I doubt Nova for a little while unless we're talking a big time job like UConn opening up and coming after him.

I agree, Merecede. I would love to have Jay Wright. But isn't he the Big East coach everyone was talking about during the last search? I don't recall anything about Belein, but I've slept since then.

yeah Ada he definitely was... but Calipari was also mentioned. I really doubt both were anywhere near realistic candidates (wishlist yes) though especially at the salaries those 2 guys will demand.

IIRC, the Jay Wright rumors were started by some chewy-like guy (dude with some cred) on a coaching message board posting something like, "$3mm/yr Wright to OU - done deal". I'll see if I can dig that up.

Tried a bunch of different search combos but couldn't hit it. I still think that's how it started. It was some basketball coaching forum, not even remotely related to OU, and a reputable poster was saying that Wright to OU for big money was done.
