Why should OU bring Capel back next year?

Sampson's last year, we lost to Colorado, Nebraska 2 times, Mizzou, and KU.

Year before his last...We lost to ISU, TT 2 times, Mizzou, and OSU.

Really, Bliss is a better coach than Drew????

The end!!!

I think so. Bliss took Baylor to their first ever NCAA tournament in a gazillion years. In fact, he is one of a few coaches to take 4 different schools to the NCAA tournament (OU, SMU, New Mexico, and Baylor). What has drew done so far? He underachieved a few years back but made the NCAA last year for the first time. Drew is a much better recruiter but bliss was pretty good himself with the Lucas kid and the kid who transferred to Texas when bliss tried to cover up the murder, which can't be defended.

Bliss was a great coach. He sure turned OU around when he took over in the 70s.

Edit: bliss did not take Baylor to the NCAA. They advanced to the nit. He did take UNM to the NCAA 7 times, SMU 3 times, and OU once.

The rest of the conference doesn't matter. Fact is we aren't competing with any of those teams because we are bad and not well coached frankly. It's like saying the football in the 90s Big 8-Big 12 got better when OU was bad. It was not about that. Bob Stoops proved that after 2 good years of a good coach and has that still been dominating the conference today. Big 12 basketball isn't really that much different from when it had 4 2 seeds or better in 2003 or had Final Four teams all throughout the 2000s. It's not much different now. It's still a good conference, kinda weaker on the bottom maybe but still a good conference. The only difference is we aren't any good and probably the worst coached team in the league.

And we are rebuilding. Why don't we allow this to be a rebuilding year and then judge him next year when we aren't rebuilding? I dont judge Roy Williams on his rebuilding year(when he didn't make the tourney with 7 mcdAA).

What was last year?

What was last year?

Do you see Warren, TMG, or Gallon on this team?? No...They entered the Draft...where 2 got drafted. No Crocker or Wright as well.

If we had 2 of those 3 guys that left...I would not call this a rebuilding year. And I would not be giving him any slack.

Next year we return all but 1 guy....no longer a rebuilding year...its a legit team with experience.

But of course we are going to struggle this year...if we didn't it wouldn't be called a rebuilding year and after every loss we can debate this thing over and over.

Two years of rebuilding isn't acceptable at Oklahoma. Where's the talent OU is suppose to rebuild with? The roster lacks the talent to make the ncaa tournament. What guys on next years roster would start at KU, Mizzou, Texas, Kstate or aTm next year year?

It's frustrating to see the program not being competitive. I am tired of excuses, Capel is responsible for OU not being competitive. The current direction the program is going in is not good. College basketball is won with good guard play, how much better are OU's guards going to be next season?

So if a few of these guys leave after this year(which is a good possibility under Capel), then by your definition, next year would be another rebuilding year and Capel would get another year. :facepalm

If we want to have a competitive basketball program at all we have to make a change. Say what you want, but Jeff has a losing record other than when Blake was here and we all know now that Blake was more than special.

Heard Jeff say the other day he talks to Blake every day. Ok Jeff maybe the Clippers will hire you as an assistant because that is what you really are.

The Big 12 is a tough league and we have the worst coach in the league so again until we make a change we can expect to dwell in the Big 12 cellar.

It is unacceptable to have to rebuild your program in your 5th year.

Like a reverse mortgage, I wish we would demote Capel to asst. coach for recruiting and to prevent transfers and hire a much better HC.

OU's rebuilding years should still make the NCAA or at least one of the other post season tourneys. This is not a rebuilding year, this is another demolition year.

People who think Tubbs would do better is only fooling themselves. Tubbs coached in the big 8...remember that conference??? a league made up of OU, OSU and KU...and then there was KST, COL, ISU, Mizzou, and NEB.

Sampson only had to deal with a league that was slowly getting better

And Capel is dealing with the 2nd best league in the country. Mizzou, OSU, aTm, Bay, Tex, KST, and KU

Are you serious with this comment that the Big 8 was not a strong basketball conference. It was a lock to get 4 teams in the Tournament. 5 happened fairly regularly in the mid to late 80s. One season the Big 8 put an incredible 6teams in the NCAA Tournamanet. The Big 8 was a great basketball conference.

In 1988, ISU had Grayer, KSU had Mitch Richmond, Missouri had Derek Chievous, OU had Grant, King, Blaylock and Grace, and KU had Danny Manning. I am sure those other teams had some nice players too, I just don't recall their names.

OSU was turning into a respectable program back then winning almost all of their home games but they couldn't win on the road until Sutton came to OSU and insisted on the team playing great defense. I don't recall the years they played but OSU had Richard Dumas and John Starks around that time. I am sure some of the OSU fans could help with the correct years.

Wasn't Dumas a frosh in 88 at OSU? Seems like in 88, OSU also had Thomas Jordan and some other good players who were recruited by Hamilton who is a top-notch recruiter.

Colorado had Shaun Vandiveer, who was the Big 8 rookie of the year in 1988. The conference was loaded that year.

Mizzou had Doug Smith and Derrick Cheivous.
KSU had Richmond and Steve Henson.
OSU had Jordan and Dumas (I'm pretty sure).
KU had Manning.
ISU had Jeff Grayer.
CU had Vandiveer.
OU had King, Blaylock, and Grant.

In 1989, it was OU and MU were both in the top 5 the entire season. KU was good but on probation.
1990, OU, MU and KU were all top 5 at the end of the season. I think at one point they were 1,2, and 3.
1991, OU fell off a bit, but KU was a final 4 team, OSU was in the sweet 16.

The Big 8 was a good conference and anybody that says otherwise is either too young and is misinformed, or their memory is very foggy.

So if this year is a rebuilding year then what is the excuse for last year with 2NBA draftees and 2 other seniors who are playing overseas now? People want to throw those kids under the bus for last year's horrible record, and then use them as cornerstones for why this team is down. Can't have it both ways.
