Not an overly optimistic take on Reid. Raw, not likely to be a consistent shooter, and handles need a lot of work. Sounds like as of now, he is a much lesser version of what Moore was last season, and we saw how much Moore struggled against good, athletic teams and size.

I like these updates and observations from Neal. He obviously knows the game, and doesn’t seem to be a blind homer.

Maybe I am a homer but “much lesser Jalon Moore” seems like a stretch? Seems like Neal is saying more athletic, but less consistency.

Also OU isn’t asking Reid to carry the focal point of the offense as much as Moore?

I don’t read it as more athletic, just more powerful but not as explosive a jumper. But Moore had a decent outside shot last year and wasn’t bad the year before, so if Reid isn’t a reliable shooter or handler, that could be an issue. Maybe he develops a shot over time, but sounds like Neal isn’t optimistic!

“Isn’t optimistic” seems like a mischaracterization of Neal’s comments unless you’re talking about Reid’s shot specifically. Just seems like pumping the breaks for casuals who see the 5* rating more than anything IMO.

Wichita, I am having difficulty coming up with an OU comp for Reid (body type and size). What do you think about Ace McGee? Ace was left handed and could really shoot, so I'm not talking about a comp related to skill set -- just body type. We listed Ace at 6'8, but I don't know if he was that tall. But, he was a muscled up bull of a kid.

That may not be a bad comp from a body type standpoint. It sounds like Reid is more athletic, whereas Ace was more skilled. We will have a better idea once we start seeing him in action (I am too lazy to pull up video of him at Bama, and even though he had arguably his best game against us, I don't remember him specifically).

To me there are some striking similarities to the San Diego St version of Kawhi Leonard. Not great shooters, but a similar powerful way of getting the ball to the rack. 3/4 hybrid with defensive versatility and potential through the roof with similar build and some very similar movement styles. Should be a guy that gets on the glass well.

Obviously Kawhi played much more as a freshman but the situation with their rosters, roles, & health were different.

Is he ever going to be a top 5 player in the NBA? Highly unlikely, but there are a lot of similarities in play style as young players.

I also disagree with the sentiment that he can’t play the 3. He did at Alabama this year plenty and we’ve already got shot creation & scoring on the court. His biggest impact *should* be made on the defensive end of the floor.

Perfect comparison. He wanted to be a 3 but was really a frontcourt player because he lacked the ball-handling, passing, and outside shooting consistency while he was a difference maker and match-up nightmare in the paint against smaller 3/4s and bigger/slower 4/5s.
