Excluding the exhibition games, these are the stats of our 3 pt shooting:

Aaryn: 9-19
Wyatt: 1-5
Sharane: 1-8
Edwards: 0-1
Kornet: 0-3
Morgan: 0-3
Carter: 0-4

Obviously this team is capable of shooting much better than this. If I don't forget, I will come back and post stats for the next 2 games to compare to our first two games.

Wow that is ugly. Kornet has to make 3's as part of her contribution.

I wouldn't be too hard on Nicole. She's contributing plenty with her rebounding, defense, setting screens, etc. You're right, though, it would be nice to see Kornet start hitting a few outside shots.

Exactly! We've only played 2 games. She showed last year that she can hit the 3 so I think that will come around. But she's improved greatly in the other areas. I think she'll have a 15-20 point game at some point this year. She's doing fine so far.

Judging from watching the games thus far, the girls have spent a lot of time working on driving to the basket, which was the smart thing to do considering the changes in the way the game is now officiated. I think they'll work on their 3 point shooting and it will come around as the season develops.

Last year, we basically had:
Vegas 41%
Hook 33%
Portia 33%
Kornet 31%
Campbell 29%

If I remember, Sharane was about 45% in conference play after starting slow.

Sometimes, it's a flow thing. We've really been working hard on cutting and moving. I don't know that we've even thought about taking threes in practice. I get the feeling that we have concentrated on getting to the basket, or, at least, getting a short jump shot. Curiously, this appeared to work against Wichita. We went to the basket almost at will and built a 24 point lead without three pointers.

If you have penetration, kicking it out should make three pointers easier, which makes penetration easier. I think it will come in time, hopefully by the NIT finals. We may need it against Louisville or LSU.

I feel certain the outside shooters shot plenty of 3 pointers over the summer. In fact, I believe it was Kornet who mentioned how many 3 pointers she and someone (Peyton ?) had made out of 1,000 attempts. The temporary slump has nothing to do with lack of BTA practice, IMO. I don't think it is anything to be concerned about.

When the competition gets tough, we have 3 starters who can penetrate on a regular basis, Aaryn, Sharane, and Morgan. We may see Carter driving inside in the future. Same with Edwards as she develops confidence. Kornet can drive if the lane is open but I don't see her or Wyatt trying to take defenders off the dribble much. Again, what we do against a team like Wichita St is different from what we will be able to do against a team like LSU. Sherri has always loved 3 pointers and I expect we will see those shots falling in the next game or two.

I am really pleased with the way the kids are finding ways to score, instead of living by the three and dying by the three. As we all know, teams will shut down the middle and leave our great shooters open eventually, and our kids will make them pay. Our kids are too good not to start hitting. Its early yet, and with our posts starting to produce, and the kids taking advantage of the rule changes, this is going to be a very dangerous team to defend once every thing starts clicking, and they will start clicking soon.

Current 3 point shooting stats (10 attempts or more):

Derica: 58%
Aaryn: 35%
Gioya: 29%
Morgan: 23%
Kornet: 8.3%
Sharane: 5.6%

As a team we are shooting 29% BTA.

Is the line moving back messing with them? This isn't a high school 3 distance anymore

The team is guard heavy. Very guard heavy. It will require some sharp shooters and the ability to know when to diversify/adjust; coaches and players. But you can't have that many guards not able to hit the three for two competitive games AND NOT REBOUND. I say keep shooting if you have someone that can rebound, but that's not the case. Lots of work to do to expect success.

Rebounding: Now a foul according to 9 out of 10 college basketball officials.

I'd like to believe that during the recruiting process, the coach considered the range of shots taken. If high school coaches are TRULY preparing the high school player for an opportunity to play at the college level, then there should be development to include shooting from the college three point range by the time the player is a junior.

Sooo... ya think they forgot to move the practice gym's three-point line back? I mean, they were both built before the 3-point line changed :D

(yes i'm joking)

You're right, not sure what I was looking at.
Statistics boards are strange. Have to figure out what they are posting. Less than 1% would mean that someone is letting them shoot 100 threes before they hit one. I figure Sherri might put a stop to that.
