Bill Self on Buddy Hield

Good story. Interesting note about Embid at the end. I don't get guys that realize their dream and then don't put in the effort to sustain it.

Some are physically mature enough for pro sports long before they are emotionally mature enough.

Great read! It's obvious Self has a lot of respect for Buddy. He also confirmed that KU recruited him coming out of Sunrise Christian. I say that because there seemed to be some question about whether KU was serious when they recruited him back then.

I was surprised to read the part about Embiid at the bottom of this article. I thought he had a bright future when he opted for the NBA. What a shame that he has ballooned up to 300 pounds by not taking his conditioning program seriously.

I feel like it would be hard to put in the effort necessary to succeed and compete when you're playing for an organization that is actively trying to lose.

Pretty high praise from Self.

On a side note, I couldn't believe what I read about Embiid. Granted, I haven't really been following him since he left KU, but these were the quotes:
"Joel Embiid weighs 300 lbs after weighing 250 at KU last year. Embiid was sent home during the Sixers recent road trip after a blow up with asst S&C coach James Davis. The Inquirer reports that Embiid has "blown off conditioning drills" and some have questioned his commitment to basketball"....yikes.

Buddy is gaining with NBA scouts too. I know one that is going tonight that didn't have him in the first round and now he says if he sustains, he is playing himself into a mid first round pick. Scout said I"m far more interested in how he plays tonight on the road then how he played against OSU, but he was magnificent against the Pokes.
