Bryce Thompson timeline?

I think the last point is something that is overlooked a lot. Sure, there are plenty of times when people can fairly assume that a program is cheating. Zion is a great example -- I don't think anyone believe Duke didn't do anything shady to get him. But the NCAA can't exactly punish schools just based on assumptions. I've listed several examples of blue blood programs receiving significant sanctions when there is actual proof (including Kentucky, notwithstanding Tark's quote about Cleveland State), but I won't rehash the list here.

I will be distraught if KU doesn't get hit, Kruger can't win if the blatant cheaters don't get hammered. Why even play by the rules at that point.

Agreed.

As I see it, that’s the difference in the NCAA’s investigation into Self and KU’s violations. The FBI handed them all of the proof they’ll need on a silver platter (no pun intended).

That’s also why I think a decision could be made before the season starts next year, giving Bryce enough time to go in another direction. CoachTalk says the family actually has that spelled out in a written agreement as part of his commitment. Smart move on their part!

What makes this worse is that Texas Tech just got a 5 star commit. OU needs a strong showing this year, or they may fall too far behind the top teams.

Reading what Thompson said, it sounds like he wants the chance to play PG as well.

This thread made me go look at the Rivals board and their free Top 150 prospects each year... Man Texas Tech has been cleaning up. I guess Beard is a recruiting machine also.. They ain't going anywhere. Multiple top 150 signings the last couple years, and like 3 already committed in the top 100 for 2021. Hope Kruger et al can start to match some of that... WOW

We'll see. We had a pretty good class after our Final Four, too. And some returning production as well.

But we still fell flat on our face.

From my reading I think:

Top Targets
Manny Obaseki
Damion Collins

Good Gets
Jaxson Robinson
Bijan Cortes

Hopefuls
KJ Adams
Trey Alexander

I think trey is top target. Jaxson as well.

Jerrell Colbert is 5 star PF/C that we lead in as well.

That's good to hear. I just put them in that category because OU offered Jaxson relatively late & heard Alexander might be looking harder at the blue bloods.

I'm sure there will be a lot more names in the meantime, expected to be a 5 man class.

I agree.

And I think it takes more than one season of having no five stars to debunk my point about their recruiting.

Nobody has questioned that KU has historically recruited well, but they also don't have the NCAA breathing down their necks every year. My point is that they were vulnerable this year. They just came off one of their worst years under Self, and until they got Bryce, their recruiting was unquestionably down this year, and I doubt the correlation with NCAA's NOA is coincidental. Even with Bryce, this still isn't your typical KU class.

So, again, I will stand by my assertion that Bryce would have been a much more significant get for OSU than KU.

That's nice and all, but you're not refuting anything I ever said. As BC said, I PERSONALLY would have preferred to see him at OSU over KU. Your "common sense" isn't going to change that. As somebody that was deeply involved in OK sports, I love OK kids, and I hate seeing guys like Xavier and Giddens going across the border to KU, especially when they don't thrive. That is my personal opinion. I have no love for KU.

SO is Phipps the only player in this Class or am i missing someone?

Will probably be it unless a good grad transfer comes along. Also I believe this would be a good year to get a regular transfer.

No one wants the two of us to hijack this thread, so this is my last comment on it. Your original statement was that the people who preferred Bryce choosing KU to OSU are showing "love" for KU. My reply was that it has nothing to do with loving KU, and that there are logical, non-emotional reasons to feel that way. When OSU and KU play, I cheer against KU every time. For that matter, I cheered against KU when they played the Soviets in the late 80s. But despite my lifelong hatred for KU, I think that it would have been more of a dagger to OU had he chosen OSU. I recognize that there are reasons to feel otherwise, though. If you want OK kids to stay in OK, just say that right off the bat. I've never come after you personally by questioning your intelligence, so I was disappointed you went that route initially. But I'm a big boy and can handle it, and understand your point now that you've articulated it.

OU trying to out recruit KU in basketball is like KU doing the same in reverse in football. Isn't going to happen.
KU got a great basketball player, name escapes me, who's dad played football
for OU and the OU football family helped them when the family was devastated
by hurricane Katrina but he still went to KU.
May be better to spend time and resources going other targets and don't waste time trying to pry a kid away from KU.

He’s isn’t signing early as of now. We will still recruit him.

It has happened and will continue to happen...just not on a regular basis AND with the right recruits. I've already stated the obvious that Trae Young is much further along in the NBA right now because he chose OU over Kansas and Kentucky (due to the autonomy Lon Kruger gave him that would not have happened at the other two schools). That is certainly a selling point for the right recruit - the thought of having a better NBA career by choosing OU. Kansas has had a slew of 1st round picks this century, but they only have one NBA player (Embiid) who is as good / better than all three OU 1st round picks playing in the League. That is something OU can use when recruiting a player against KU.

Hard to beat Adidas money.

Excellent points, WF! We can only hope OU recruits will see that too.
