TULSA — Just as things were looking bleak, Ana Llanusa and Choctaw refused to be denied.
Llanusa, an OU signee, scored 32 points to lead No. 2 Choctaw to a thrilling 63-58 comeback victory over No. 5 Putnam City West Thursday night in the Class 6A girls state tournament quarterfinals at Tulsa Memorial High School.
Down four points with just over a minute left, Choctaw scored to tie the game at 55-55, and then got a steal and Bailey Golden scored with 57 seconds left to put the Yellowjackets up 57-55.
Llanusa scored 14 of her points in the fourth quarter, including eight in the final 1:18.
Choctaw (24-3) overcame a 40-31 deficit early in the third quarter and used a 10-0 run to catch up and go ahead late in the quarter. From that point, it was nipand-tuck with several lead changes.
Ce’Nara Skanes was spectacular for PC West (24-3) with 23 points.
Llanusa, averaging 19.4 points, simply took over the game in the final quarter. She hit all eight of her free throw attempts in the final quarter.
